Mission 7 - From the Deep | Campaign Halo Wars 2 Guide

Last update: 14 March 2017

Main Objectives: Survive the first wave, defend your base and defeat the Scarab.

Optional objectives:

  • Build two turrets and upgrade them to the anti-tank version.

Bonus:

  • Perform 20 kills with Scorpions.
  • Take over the Locust.

Your will desperately defend the coast (the west part for the most time) and the portal located deep in the land. Play your cards right and you should be able to defend yourself without further problems for the most of the time. At the very beginning, you will find yourself in the middle of the battle. Use Alice and take control of the heavy Banished tank. Use it to secure the west beach. Later on, you will gain access to new unit - Nightingale. It's the equivalent of an Engineer - a unit that you have encountered already. Use it to repair your buildings and troops. Quickly build another Nightingale, so they can heal each other. This way the repair drones can be used as a last resort.

Build turrets and upgrade them to the anti-tank version. Build an airport and a garage in both mini bases. Raise a lab and buildings that generate resources in the central base. There are two energy nodes on the map - use them. Once this is done, focus on improving defense in other locations: send Marines and a Cyclops to the middle coast and place them in the fortified position, and build an upgraded turret right next to it (antiaircraft upgrade). This spot will be attacked by Wraiths but transporters with Grunts and lightweight vehicles will also appear later on. Position a squad of Marines in the east crossing. If things get complicated, you will use commander's ability to add additional turrets there.

Gather an additional army that consists of e.g. 2 Warthogs, 2-3 Hornets and 1 1 Nightingale (or flying units only). You will send them to both locations if needed. These are the fastest units that are also very effective against enemy infantry. An alternative would be to fire at the position of enemy infantry, so that you won't have to move your own units. Keep Cyclops, 3-4 Wolverines (use them to eliminate flying transporters) and Scorpions (use them against infantry and tanks; you can build them for 1500 energy, once you upgrade your base to level 3).

Half way through the mission, Locust will begin to attack. These sage units have a long range and deal constant damage. Take control over one of them to attack enemy forces before they even reach the shore. Even if Alice controls the heavy tank, you can still take over a Locust. Just select the right unit, use the scroll wheel to select Alice and use her ability on the vehicle. Draw attention to the fact that unless you destroy the last remaining enemy unit from a given wave, no further enemies will arrive. Use this to your advantage.

Scarab is a tough opponent but it doesnt stand a chance against a large army. - Mission 7 - From the Deep | Campaign - Campaign - Halo Wars 2 Game Guide
Scarab is a tough opponent but it doesn't stand a chance against a large army.

Second to last wave will be the most difficult one. You will be attacked from all 3 sides. The most intensive assault will take place in the west. The remaining two sides will be attacked by enemy infantry and lightweight vehicles. When you defeat all your opponents, the Banished will send their superior unit - the Scarab. It uses two types of attack: a main cannon in the front (similar to the one used by the Hornet) and antiaircraft missiles. Retreat your troops near your turrets and your infantry from the fortified position get attacked. When the Scarab focuses his main cannon on them, hit it with all you have got. With enough fire power, you should be able to destroy it faster than it can finish off your infantry.
