On this page of our Hades guide you'll learn the meanings of the symbols that appear on doors while you explore the underworld. The game doesn't show you any text info regarding the symbols. On this page we've compiled the reoccurring symbols and described what kind of chambers they lead to.
You'll encounter weird symbols on chambers' doors almost immediately after starting the game. Some chambers have only one available exit, but others can have two or three.
The game doesn't display any text info about a symbol's meaning, but our guide should help you understand them. We don't advise you to choose random doors, as entering chambers with specific rewards or loot inside will help you progress. For example, look for the doors with a Centaur Heart symbol if your maximum health is lacking, while if you have a lot of money you should look for symbols that represent Charon's shops.
The following list contains the most important symbols, i.e. the ones that appear in almost every run and are worth remembering. You can additionally encounter less common symbols connected, for example, to a specific deity. In those cases it's not too important to learn the meaning of the symbol. Of course, we advise you to always check a symbol you're encountering for the first time (unless you need to prioritise something else).
This symbol leads to a chamber containing Darkness - one of the most important resources which is used to purchase talents in the House of Hades.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing a Chthonic Key - they can be used in the House of Hades to unlock weapons and new talents.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing Charon's Obols, gold coins that are used during the run (not in the House of Hades!) to purchase items in shops and Wells of Charon.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing a Centaur Heart. Each collected Heart raises your max HP by 25 points.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing Charon's Shop, in which you can buy random items by spending Charon's Obols.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing Nectar, which can be gifted to various deities and NPCs to receive items such as keepsakes in return.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing a Pom of Power, which can be used to level up one of your currently owned boons.
This symbol leads to a chamber containing Gemstones, which are used to pay for new projects at the House Contractor in the House of Hades.
This symbol leads to a chamber with a Daedalus Hammer. It allows you to choose one of three upgrades for your current weapon (the upgrades vary based on the weapon you chose in the House of Hades).
All symbols with a skull icon underneath have something in common - they warn you of a difficult enemy encounter you need to handle before collecting the reward (a boon, a resource, etc.).
Additional note - some of the boons offered by Chaos (such as Enshrouded Strike) temporarily obscure the symbols with an eye symbol, forcing you to choose doors at random. This kind of handicap should only be taken if you're still in an early stage of the run (e.g. in Tartarus), you don't need to worry about high-thread chambers or look for specific rooms (e.g. the shops).
