God of War: Valkyrie Queen Sigrun (Council of Valkyrie) - how to beat? God of War Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 19 August 2022

On this page of the God of War game guide you will find the description of the fight with the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun located in the Valkyrie Council location. This walkthrough explains the requirements to unlock the fight, where the Valkyrie Council is located, and how to deal with the Valkyrie Queen (one of the strongest optional bosses in the game).

Valkyrie Queen Sigrun - whereabouts

Valkyrie Queen Sigrun resides in the Valkyrie Council, one of the optional areas within the Shores of Nine.

Kratos can visit the Valkyrie Council relatively early in the game, although a confrontation with Sigrun can only occur after killing 8 Valkyries under her command. The main character must reach the arena of the Valkyrie Council and place the heads of the defeated 8 Valkyries on the surrounding thrones. This will allow you to interact with the tear in the middle of the arena and initiate a confrontation with the Queen.

Fight preparations and description of the duel with Valkyrie Queen Sigrun

We strongly advise you to leave the duel with Valkyrie Queen Sigrun for the very end of the game, as she is one of the strongest opponents in 2018 God of War - God of War: Valkyrie Queen Sigrun (Council of Valkyrie) - how to beat? - Valkyries - God of War Guide

We strongly advise you to leave the duel with Valkyrie Queen Sigrun for the very end of the game, as she is one of the strongest opponents in 2018' God of War. The recommended steps to prepare for the battle with Valkyrie Queen have been described in more detail on the introduction page of this guide. As a reminder, it's highly recommended to get the best possible armor (by completing all the favors for the Brok and Sindri dwarves or by completing all the favors in Nilfheim) and to equip best runes (optimally epic) for your melee weapon.

Additionally, before reaching the Valkyrie's lair it is a good idea to equip the Berserker's Resurrection Stone (it allows you to resurrect Kratos once you have the maximum fury level) and to fully charge up your rage bar in order to be able to use it after the duel with Sigrun starts.

You can start the duel with Queen Sigrun by attacking the boss before she engages into the battle. You have to take into account that Sigrun has all the special attacks of previous optional bosses, that is, normal Valkyries and is able to perform them in different variations. The queen's attacks may include the following possibilities::

  1. jump in the air combined with an attempt to trample Kratos - you have to wait about 1 second and jump aside to prevent the Queen from landing on the hero,
  2. making charges - you can block them or make dodges,
  3. attempts to catch the hero - perfect dodges are highly recommended,
  4. taking cover from incoming attacks - you can run up to her and hit her with your shield to make her uncover herself again,
  5. bombarding the arena with fire - it's best to jump away from the places where fire missiles are supposed to land,
  6. shooting projectiles at Kratos - the easiest way is to block them with a shield,
  7. attacking with wings and melee weapons - blocking or parrying are appropriate reactions.

For all varieties of Queen attacks, it is important to remember that attacks signaled in red cannot be stopped. The only way to avoid damage in this situation is to dodge flawlessly.

If Kratos is crushed by Sigrun, it will be necessary to complete a QTE scene by rhythmically pressing the button indicated by the game (it should be the Circle button). This will allow Kratos to avoid more serious damage.

Due to Sigrun's very high endurance, it's extremely important to use the Spartan Rage properly to inflict as much damage as possible on the Queen. If Kratos is defeated, it is worth remembering that he can use the Berserker's Stone to reactivate the Spartan Rage.
