God of War: The Black Rune - Walkthrough God of War Guide and Walkthrough

On this page of the God of War game guide you will find the walkthrough of the Black Rune quest in which you have to return to Tyr's Vault after healing Atreus. This walkthrough will tell you how to retrieve the Black Rune, how to avoid traps with spikes, how to solve the Moon, Midgard and Sun puzzle, how to defeat two trolls and how to get out of Tyr's Vault afterwards.

Return to Tyrs Vault
Leave the cabin - if you want to, you can try to open the fifth Nornir chest in this location.
Go to the cave and reach the boat. Watch a cut-scene.
Go back to Tyr's Vault. Watch a few cut-scenes. You reach a huge chamber with rotating rings.
Retrieve the Black Rune
Approach the rotating rune - the Winds of Hel are on one of the rotating rings. Capture them. Insert the Winds into the sphere in the next room.
Use the spinning wheel to lift the grate. You have to go through rotating blades (don't get hit by them). Use Leviathan to freeze one of them - thanks to that you will be able to proceed forward.
Enter the main chamber and then defeat a few enemies. Capture the Winds of Hel and place them in another green sphere.
You now have to go through a corridor full of spike traps. Use Leviathan to freeze a trap for a moment. Then, you have to enter a crack on the right to reach the other side.
Open the door, defeat a few enemies, and climb up. Kill more enemies and lower the chain.
Capture the Winds from the upper part of the rings and move them into the sphere located below. Go down and move the Winds to the last sphere located below. Rotate the spinning wheel... It's a trap!
Escape the trap - Moon, Midgard, Sun puzzle
The premise of this puzzle is to get the following result:
- The moon will be on the left,
- Midgard will be in the middle,
- The sun will be on the right.
The desired end result is shown in the image above, while keeping in mind that the amount of time to complete the puzzle is limited.
In order to achieve the desired setting, Atreus must be given commands to interact with the lower mechanisms - this is done by placing the camera on the appropriate lever and pressing Square button. The correct order of interacting with the mechanisms is: middle, left, middle, left, right, middle, right.
Defeating the Frost and Fire Troll - mini-bosses
Confrontation with a couple of big monsters has been described in detail on the Two Trolls in Tyr's Vault page in the Bosses chapter.
Destroy the grates and go down. Pick up the Black Rune. Two Trolls appear - this is a rather challenging fight.
The enemies have separate health bars and they can regenerate each other.
The ice Troll is resistant to Leviathan, the fire one is invulnerable to Blades of Chaos. The best tactic is to attack the ice Troll - thanks to Blades of Chaos you can keep a safe distance.
Watch out for the stones on the ground - destroy them and the arena will be covered in darkness (this reduces your visibility).
Keep your distance, attack only one Troll and move around the entire arena - this should be enough to defeat them.
Exit Tyrs Vault
Go to the treasure chamber (the one where Atreus was playing with a knife). There, you can open one of the Nornir chests.
Use the elevator and reach the surface - you have completed another mission. In the meantime, Kratos and Atreus will celebrate their successful journey by drinking wine.
