The Ash Tyrant (a dragon) is a mini-boss featured in the side quest The Burning Skies in God of War Ragnarok. In this walkthrough we explain how to unlock the passage to the dragon's lair in the Sinkholes in Vanaheim and how to deal with the big dragon.

Unlocking the quest
This favor starts in the southeastern part of the Sinkholes. You need to reach the area as shown in the pictures above. The protagonists will spot here one of the dragons residing in the Crater.
You can't defeat the dragon right away, but you can chase it away to its lair. The monster will sit on the damaged parts of the ruins. Throw your spear at the weak points located underneath the dragon (example in the picture).
Ultimately, you will make the dragon fly away to its lair. A related side quest will start automatically.
Find a way to the dragon's lair
Start by heading south. Use the chain to open the first gate. The opened passage will come in handy in the future.
You have to deal with the Return of the River favor, involving opening the dam and flooding the Crater. This will allow you to use boats in the Sinkholes. Use the boat to reach the place where the dragon appeared for the first time.
Moor the boat and reach the northern chain. Interacting with it will unlock the passage to the north.
Continue going north towards the mission marker. Moor the boat and reach the gate as shown in the picture.
Defeat the Ash Tyrant
When getting through the cave, you must avoid the dragon's fire attacks - to do this, choose side passages instead of the main tunnel. You must also destroy the barricade - stick 3 spears into the weak points and detonate them.
Deal with the usual enemies along the way and reach the location where you will have to climb a rock wall. You will reach the northeastern part of the Sinkholes. After some more combat, climb to the dragon's lair.
You'll need to defeat a dragon called Ash Tyrant. It's a mini-boss with a long health bar.
The dragon will attack mostly from above. Jump away the moment it tries to grab Kratos and attack the beast after it lands back in the arena.
If you get crushed, press the button shown on the screen to free yourself.
In between dragon attacks, ordinary monsters may appear in the arena: eliminate them quickly.
The dragon will land on the ruins. Block its fire attacks and throw spears at the weak points. This may force the dragon to land in the main part of the arena, where it will be vulnerable to your attacks.
Watch out for the boss's attempts to set the arena on fire: it's the red attack and you need to get out of its range.
After you deprive the boss of its entire health bar, you can press R3 to complete the QTE and finally defeat the beast.
