SPOILER ALERT! If you want to explore God of War Ragnarok on your own, stop reading here.
Kratos, a Spartan warrior who gave up his soul to gain immense power and became a slayer of gods is once again the main character of a God of War game. Kratos and his son Atreus are once again traversing distant worlds, but this time their goal is to stop Ragnarok.
The son of Faie and Kratos, Kratos' main traveling companion. Atreus, as in the 2018 God of War, plays a significant role in the plot of God of War Ragnarok. Atreus is a bit older and is capable of much more than in the previous games. Note that at certain points in the storyline of GoW Ragnarok we can take full control of this character.
A mysterious sage, a companion of Kratos and Atreus. This is another well-known character who makes a comeback in God of War Ragnarok. Once again, Mimir's wisdom, his stories and jokes make the exploration of the world of GoW Ragnarok more pleasant.
The leader of Valkyrie and Odin's ex-wife. She was once a friend of Kratos, but when her son Baldur died at his hands (GoW 2018), Freja swore revenge on him. As the storyline of God of War Ragnarok progresses, Freja changes her approach to Kratos and plays a significant role in the story.
Dwarf master craftsman, brother of Brok, a character well known to all fans of the God of War series. Sindri, having reconciled with his brother Brok at the end of the 2018 GoW game, reappears in God of War Ragnarok and assists Kratos and Atreus with his blacksmithing talents and advice. At certain points, he even accompanies them on their journey.
Sindri's brother, also a master craftsman, who together with Sindri created Leviathan (Kratos' axe) and Mjolnir (Thor's hammer). Brok is more talkative and abrasive than his brother, but is equally fond of Kratos and Atreus. Brok, like Sindri, also accompanies the main characters on their journey, at least up to a certain point in the story of God of War Ragnarok.
Angrboda is a brand new character that appears in God of War Ragnarok. The young giant survived the genocide of her kind by the Aesir gods and plays a significant role in the game - she is one of Atreus' companions.
The Aesir god of war, combat, strength, honor, but also law and justice. He was the one who tried to find a way to make peace with the Giants and protected them from Odin when he sent Thor to exterminate this species. Once thought to be dead, Tyr appears in God of War Ragnarok and is one of the significant companions of Kratos and Atreus.
The son of Odin, the god of thunder and lightning returns to the series after a brief episode in the 2018 God of War. Like Freya, Thor will also seek revenge on Kratos for having murdered his sons. Up to a certain point in God of War Ragnarok, Thor submits to Odin's will and follows his orders, but at some point he changes his attitude and starts making his own decisions.
Heimdall is the Norse god of foresight, surveillance and order, the watchman of the Aesir, son of Odin, half-brother of Thor, Tyr and Baldur. Heimdall is extremely loyal to Odin, whom he wants to protect at all costs. In God of War Ragnarok Heimdall belongs to antagonists, trying to secretly get rid of Atreus at all costs.
The highest of the Norse gods of the Aesir dynasty, the All-Father, king of Asgard, father of Thor and the main antagonist of God of War Ragnarok. Odin, believing in Ragnarok and the inevitable fall of Asgard, seeks his own way to prevent the unavoidable fate. In the course of the story of GoW Ragnarok Odin tries to come between Atreus and his father and use his innate gift of knowing ancient languages for his own purposes.
