Last update: 18 November 2019

The gameplay in Garena Free Fire doesn't stand out from any other titles of the Battle Royale genre. A few dozen players are dropped on a huge map, and their goal is to obtain equipment and survive as long as possible. Despite the fact that different game modes are available in the game - they only introduce cosmetic changes to the gameplay without implementing any significant modifications. In this chapter you will find a detailed description of all game modes available in Garena Free Fire.

Classic Mode

Classic Mode is the default gameplay mode where you will spend most of your time.

The first of the game modes described in our guide is the classic mode, which is selected by default when the game is started. In this mode, a total of 50 players compete against each other on one of the two maps, Purgatory or Bermuda, which you can select on your own. This is the most classic (as its name suggests) gameplay mode, without any requirements to unlock or additional rules - the winner is the last man standing.

Ranked Game

Ranked game mode allows you to score ranking points and rank among the best players in the table. - Game modes | Garena Free Fire - Basics - Garena Free Fire Guide
Ranked game mode allows you to score ranking points and rank among the best players in the table.

Ranked Game gameplay does not differ so much from classic mode. There are still 50 players fighting on the map (on one of the two maps), but this time the map is selected randomly, you cannot select it personally. The biggest difference is the ranking system itself - players earn ranking points for participation in matches, which allow them to advance to subsequent groups, such as Bronze, Silver or Gold. The higher the rank, the higher the challenge can get as there will be more experienced players fighting there.

There are two other important things about Ranked Game mode. First of all, matches played in this mode reward you with a 20% bonus on the earned cash and experience points. Secondly, this mode is only available by default when the character advanced to level 10 of experience. It may be just level 5, if you link your account to one of several social networking sites, such as VK.com or Facebook.

Rush Hour

Rush Hour is a mode for fans of fast-paced gameplay. The action takes place in a much smaller area, where only 20 players will fight each other. The rules of this mode are pretty much the same as those in the classic mode, but due to the limited space available, matches are usually much shorter.

Note - matches played in this mode are available only once a week, every Monday.

Custom Game

Players can also host a private server with the game mode of their choice. - Game modes | Garena Free Fire - Basics - Garena Free Fire Guide

In addition to the standard gameplay modes, the game also allows you to host your own server via the Custom tab. The modes available here do not differ from the three described above. However, keep in mind that they don't allow you to earn ranking points as in the case of the Ranked Game mode.

Solo, Duo and Squad

In the top right corner of the screen you will find a button to change the mode between Solo, Duo and Squad. - Game modes | Garena Free Fire - Basics - Garena Free Fire Guide

In addition to the standard gameplay modes (described in the previous paragraphs), the game allows you to customize whether the player wants to play alone (Solo), together with another player (Duo) or in a team (Squad). The general rules of the game do not change - the goal is still the same (except that a team or one of its members must stay alive in order to win), and the number of players remains the same. The most important difference is related with death - in Solo mode the player falls out of the game after being defeated, while in Duo and Squad mode he is first knocked to the ground and can be raised by allies or killed by the enemy.
