Collecting steel in Frostpunk Frostpunk Guide

In Frostpunk, steel is one of the two required resources for creating buildings. Steel, just like wood, is also necessary in developing new technologies. However, it isn't required at the beginning of the game. Because of that you can allow yourself to rely on basic deposits of this resource for a longer period of time.

A demand for steel increases with the development of your town. This means that you will have to invest in development of Steelworks. This building works in a similar way to Coal Mines. Steelworks can be constructed near iron deposits. Then, you will need to assign employees. After that you won't have to worry about depleting deposits.

Unlike other resources, you only have one way of excavating it. Also, its upgrades only "modernize" those buildings.

Besides that you can also develop "Faster Gathering" technology that increases efficiency of all buildings that gather resources.

You can also use Automatons to increase extraction rate. Assign a robot to Steelworks. Automatons have a better efficiency than humans which means that they will automatically get more resources.
