You shouldn't speed up time during a working period. This is a moment when you can have the biggest amount of problems that can be easily missed, e.g. depletion of resource piles. This can slow down your development of the city and have an impact on citizens' morale. You can speed up the game during nights.
If decide to apply a law that unlocks a building then you have to complete a mission during which you have to build that building in a certain amount of time. If you don't have resources for it then you should wait with making that decision.
The game gives you tasks during which you have to solve certain problems. You can see them by clicking the hourglass icon that appears next to a given building. You can ignore them. The hourglass will disappear after some time. However, you can decide to complete them. If you do that you will have three choices - agree to what your citizens want, raise the demands or discard them. Don't try to complete all tasks. If you agree to solve and then you won't complete them in a certain amount of time you will drastically increase dissatisfaction of your citizens.
When you make a decision you must think about all pros and cons.
Remember that your workers have specified working time. Some of the buildings, including those that extract resources, doesn't work from 18:00 to 8:00. This is especially dangerous for a reactor. If you won't be able to get enough excess of coal during the working time, the reactor will stop working. This also stops the works in buildings that require heat. In extreme, cases your citizens may freeze to death.
Conserve engineers. Only in rare cases you can think about sending them to work in buildings in which your workers can also be assigned to. You should save them for buildings in which only they can work.
Your citizens can get sick or have accidents. Because of that you should provide them with good medical care. Place a medical post and consider applying some laws from the book of laws.
At the bottom of the screen you can see opinions of your citizens. They can say something about the city's conditions and your laws. Watch them carefully because, unlike the dissatisfaction and hopes bars, they give you precise information about what you should do.
The citizens' opinions are precise and they show their opinions about you explicitly.
Workshop is a rather important building. It unlocks a technology tree which is required for getting new reactor upgrades and new buildings. Because of that it is important to build it as fast as you can.
You don't have to click on each building to check how many employees it has. You simply have to zoom out with your camera and you will be able to see all details regarding your constructions.
All details regarding your buildings are at your fingertips.
