On this page of our guide you can find starting tips for FIFA 23. These tips and hints are mainly intended for novice players.
Passing in FIFA 23 should be planned a bit in advance and performed in tempo so not to slow down the player who is getting to a clean position. If the ball doesn't land at the recipient's feet, time and tempo will be lost, and in the worst case scenario, you'll lose the ball to the opponent. Always look whether a ground pass can be blocked - if so, choose a different approach, e.g. passing back to the middle of the field or a overhead pass.

There are many technical tricks in FIFA 23, but some players cannot perform more complex moves. Nevertheless, most of the time, the simplest tricks, such as Fake Shot, Ball Roll, or Drag Back, will work. Performing more complicated technical tricks has a much higher risk of failure.
In many situations, the classic overhead cross is the best solution to play the ball into the penalty area to the attackers running in. When performing a cross in FIFA 23 , you have to dose the power so that to prevent the ball from flying over the players' heads.

Shots on goal
In FIFA 23, you can use many types of goal shots, such as normal, technical, finesse and Timed Finishing. It is worth noting here that in FIFA 23 , Power Shots have been added, which are more difficult to execute but are much more accurate and stronger. If you are just starting your adventure with FIFA, the classic strong shot (O / B) will be the easiest and in many cases the most effective way to score.

There are several types of Set Pieces in FIFA 23:
- Throw-ins: Aim the ball at the player who is currently not covered by an opponent player. You can also throw the ball at a running-in player.
- Corner kicks: in this case, you can choose to cross the ball into the penalty area or call the second player to the corner and enter back into the match shortly by passing to a teammate.
- Free kicks: if you are taking a free kick from a place that is suitable for a shot, choose a player who has the highest technical skills and can make a strong and, above all, accurate shot.
- Penalties: It's always a lottery, but when choosing where you want to send the ball, be careful not to shoot too hard as the ball can fly over or over the goal.

When attacking the opponent's goal, you must carefully observe what is happening on the pitch and plan your moves in advance. If neither of the players moves to a vacant position, you can manually order them to run for the pass (L1 / LB). When playing an action, use all the available moves - mix short passes with long passes, release the ball to an open field, play from the stave, shift the weight of the game to the other side of the field, attack with wingers, etc.

Most of the time, AI-controlled players do well in defense, but in some situations, you will have to take control of your players and stop the opponent's action. In FIFA 23, it is extremely important to effectively switch players in order to be right next to your opponent's attacking player.
When trying to recover the ball, it is best to use the classic pickup (X / A or O / B) to avoid a foul. Do a slide-in only when you are sure that you are not fouling your opponent . There is no need to risk getting a red card and weakening the team.

When playing defensively or even in the opponent's half, you can use the pressing of a teammate (R1 / RB) or two of your teammates (2xR1 / RB) and ask for help in retrieving the ball. Thanks to this solution, you can cut off your opponent's path and not let him play the ball, but you also have to take into account the fact that for a moment a certain area of the pitch will remain unprotected.
In FIFA 23 , players have at their disposal many formations, such as 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1, 4-2-1-2-1. The key to success is finding a formation that suits your own style of play, so it's worth experimenting and finding the right player setup that will enable you to attack and defend effectively.
