  1. Complete missions - Especially the side quests because most of them rewards you with cash (main missions do that rarely). By completing a single mission, you can get from a few hundreds to a few thousands of dollars.
  2. Find prepper stashes - These stashes are connected to treasure hunting missions and are marked with a green jewel icon on the map. The majority of the stashes contains, at least, a few hundreds of dollars.
  3. Open safes - Safes can be found inside of buildings including locations that belong to your allies (e.g. Fall's End). The picture above shows an example of a safe. Try to carefully examine all rooms of a building that you visit for the first time. Safes can be opened with remote controlled explosives, lockpicks (requires Locksmith perk) or by using a blowtorch (requires Repair Torch perk Safes usually contain around 250$ in cash.
  4. Sell animal skins and fish - Skins can be acquired from hunted animals or by looting corpses. You can get fish by reaching fishing spots marked on the map. Take these items to traders. A single skin or a fish can give you from a dozen to a few hundreds of dollars.
  5. Sell useless loot - This category contains maps or books about fishing that can be found in the world. They are sold in the same window as trophies that you can get from killed animals.
  6. Liberate outposts without raising an alarm - Try to capture each of the outposts by staying in shadows and remaining undetected. A "perfect" liberation can reward you with additional $1,000.

Additional note - After defeating a "leader" of a given region (John / Faith / Jacob) you will start receiving bonus money for a lot of various side activities (completing missions, liberating outposts etc.).

What can I buy with money?

You should spend your money on - How to get money in Far Cry 5? - FAQ - Far Cry 5 Game Guide

You should spend your money on:

  1. Buying new weapons - Start collecting money immediately after starting the game and spend it only on the best weapons (ignore the weaker models). The majority of the best weapons can cost you a few thousands of dollars.
  2. Buying new weapon modifications - Try to equip all your newly bought, high-quality weapons with all available modifications. You can choose from scopes, bigger ammo mags or silencers. Depending on a part you can spend additional $1,000-1,500. Note - Don't waste money on purchasing weapon skins. They don't affect their efficiency.

Additional things that can be bought with money:

  1. A bulletproof vest - These items can wear out easily but they can also keep your character alive. Think about getting a vest before each bigger mission. This item costs "only" $200.
  2. New outfits - You should get them only if you want to get Fashion First trophy. You can get it by spending at least $1,000 on clothes.
  3. New vehicles - You can get them if you don't have any good vehicles (received as a reward for completing a mission) or you want to get Big Spender trophy. You get that trophy by spending $50,000 on vehicles.

Note - Don't waste your money on replenishing the standard ammo. This can cost you a lot (even more than $1,000). Ammo can be found in locations related to missions. Another solution is to change a weapon to another model if you currently have no ammo for that particular gun. The exception to that is the unique ammo (e.g. incendiary or armor piercing ammo) that becomes available after unlocking Black Market perk. This type of ammo can help you greatly in eliminating armored enemies or vehicles.
