Capturing cult outposts in Far Cry 5 Far Cry 5 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 29 March 2018

Capturing cult outposts is one of the more important side activities in Far Cry 5. These places play a big role because liberating them reduces the cult's influence in a given region and unlocks more missions. This chapter also contains the most important information about Far Cry 5's cult outposts.

Where can I find cult outposts?

Cult outposts are hidden by default and you cant see them on the map - Capturing cult outposts in Far Cry 5 - Guidebook - Far Cry 5 Game Guide

Cult outposts are hidden by default and you can't see them on the map. However, this isn't a huge problem. There are a few ways of finding them:

  1. While exploring the world.
  2. Learning about them form NPCs (found in the world or rescued). Talk to people who have a conversation icon above their heads.
  3. Finding their locations from maps. They can be found on tables in locations that belong to your allies.

Far Cary 5 features 20 cult outposts:

  1. 1 outpost on Dutch's island (liberating it is a part of the prologue).
  2. 7 outposts in Holland Valley.
  3. 8 outposts in Henbane River.
  4. 4 outposts in Whitetail Mountains.

Of course, you can attack them in any order but liberating some of them can be more difficult due to a location or presence of stronger enemies.

How to liberate an outpost

Liberating outposts in Far Cry 5 is very similar to how it was done in the previous instalments - Capturing cult outposts in Far Cry 5 - Guidebook - Far Cry 5 Game Guide

Liberating outposts in Far Cry 5 is very similar to how it was done in the previous instalments. To capture an outpost, you have to kill all enemies inside of a given camp. Below you can find more information about this process:

  1. It is recommended to rely on stealth while you are in a process of liberating an outpost. Start by examining a camp with your binoculars to mark enemies. Pay extra attention to snipers who can hide on rooftops, high beams or can stand near windows. Equip your character with a crossbow or a firearm (a pistol or a sniper rifle) with a silencer. You should also select a specialist (or specialists) who can eliminate enemies without making a noise. Peaches or huntress Jess Black are great choices.
  2. Enemies can raise an alarm and call for reinforcements when they detect you. This will make things more complicated. Avoid situations like that and don't let anyone see you. However, this doesn't affect your allies. Cultists won't raise an alarm and call for backups even if they detect your specialist (this only reduces the amount of money you can get after liberating a given outpost). You can also sabotage alarms inside of a camp so your enemies won't be able to call for reinforcements (depending on a camp's size you may have to find 1-3 alarms).
  3. You can help yourself in a few additional ways while you are attacking an outpost. Look for gas tanks and bottles or exploding barrels - shoot them to kill everyone standing close to those objects. Saboteur skill can help you blow up parked cars. Wild animals can also help you. Destroy cages with animals and place baits to lure predators.
  4. Liberating an outpost gives you a few hundreds of resistance points. Try to capture them without being detected - you will receive additional $1,000! If you were detected but cultists weren't able to raise an alarm, you will receive a smaller bonus - $400.
  5. A liberated outpost will become the resistance's property. You can still find a few enemies or predators in an area surrounding a given outpost but you will never lose control over it.

What can are the profits from liberating an outpost?

Besides getting resistance points and money you also can - Capturing cult outposts in Far Cry 5 - Guidebook - Far Cry 5 Game Guide

Besides getting resistance points and money you also can:

  1. Start new missions - story-related, side quests and treasure hunts.
  2. Recruit new companions - both fighters and specialists who can be imprisoned inside of an outpost.
  3. Visit newly unlocked shops.
  4. Use newly unlocked fast travel points.
  5. Find valuable items - you can also get them while you are in a process of liberating an outpost but this is more dangerous and risky to do.
