This page of the guide to Far Cry 6 features the most important information and tips on how to successfully hunt wild animals and obtain their meat to cook food, how to get a fishing rod, where are the best fishing spots and how to increase your chances of successful catch.
Wild animals - how to hunt?
Theoretically, you can hunt wild animals anywhere in the game world - after encountering an animal, you can simply attack it. The downside of this method is that you cannot predict what animal you will encounter, and when it will happen.
Additional hint - Animals are tagged when you do recon with your smartphone. You can keep track of them more easily this way.
A better method is to visit Hunting Spots. They can automatically appear on your map when you explore the game world, and you can also learn about them from brochures you find (exclamation points on the radar).
The advantage of hunting spots is that you can hunt a specific species, which is especially useful if you need a specific type of meat.
Additional tip - If you don't encounter any animals despite entering a hunting spot, walk away and try again. It is possible that you have scared the animals off and you now have to wait for new animals to respawn.
Hunter's Lodge can help you in hunting. You can order it at the construction desk as one of the projects to be placed at a rebel hideout (Montero Farm, Patriotas Peak or Maximas Camp).
By building and upgrading a Hunter's Lodge, you can:
- buy brochures with information about the next hunting spots,
- buy equipment (e.g. clothing, weapons) with various stat bonuses useful for hunting.
When hunting, try to sneak up on the animal to avoid spooking or alarming it (if it's a predator). Avoid using heavy weapons because they might damage the meat of the animal you were hunting.
Ideally, you should use a bow, a crossbow or, as a last resort, a sniper rifle. Aim at the animals' heads from a greater distance. Afterwards, always go to the fallen animal to collect the meat.
Fishing - how to fish?
Fishing isn't available from the very beginning of the game, but you will unlock it anyway early in the campaign. One of the rewards for completing the operation called Fuel the Revolution is a fishing rod. From this point on, you will be able to select it from the equipment drop-down menu (hold down L1/LB).
Theoretically, you can fish anywhere in the game world, but you'll have much higher chances for a catch in Fishing Spots. They allow you to fish for particular species. You can find new fishing grounds by exploring the game world and from documents (exclamation marks on the radar).
before you start fishing, you can find a box near the fishing spot, which allows you to choose the right equipment for a specific fish species - you will have to modify your fishing rod. If you use the default rod, you are more likely to fail the fishing attempt.
The actual fishing mini-game isn't very unique. You must cast a lure, wait for a fish to take it, and then try to catch it. In the latter case, you must "fight" with the caught fish (move in the opposite direction) and at the same time try to avoid breaking the line.
A Fishing Hut can help you with fishing, which you can order at the construction table as one of the projects to set up at a rebel hideout (Montero Farm, Patriotas Peak or Maximas Camp).
By building and upgrading the Fishing Hut, you can:
- acquire equipment (e.g. clothing items) that help in fishing,
- find out about the next Fishing Spots.
Cooking animal and fish meat
All prey obtained through hunting and fishing has its uses, but first you must build La Cantina in one of the guerrilla hideouts, which will allow you to cook meals.
Thanks to La Cantina, you can use animal meat and fish to create meals that will give you temporary stat bonuses. These bonuses can refer to e.g. carrying more ammo, increased resistance to poison or attacks. Only one bonus can be active at a time.
Levelling up La Cantina will unlock new recipes and new types of meals.
