This page of the guide to Far Cry 6 contains tips on how to steal an enemy tank, which can turn out to be an excellent machine for eliminating soldiers, completing missions and takin over enemy locations. You will also learn how to save a captured tank permanently so that you can use it without any restrictions in the later stages of the campaign.
Stealing an unused tank
Stealing a parked tank is definitely easier, because you don't have to prepare any equipment for this task.
The first good opportunity to acquire an unused tank comes on the starting island Isla Santuario in the Vencejo region. This is an FND Tank Depot that you visit during the operation Fuel the Revolution, although you can also get there on your own.
You should notice at least 2 parked tanks in the base. It's a good idea to sneak into the location to avoid alerting the enemies too early. There is a hill next to the enemy location, from which you can perform reconnaissance.
Start sneaking towards any of the tanks. Once you reach it, climb up to its roof where you will find a hatch. Interacting with it will complete the theft.
Important note - If you alert the enemies near the tank, some of them may jump inside and use it against you. This will force you to take the steps we described below. Try to sneak until you climb onto the tank.
Taking control of an enemy tank
Stealing a tank used by enemies is problematic because we are talking about a machine that is in motion and can attack you at any moment.
EMP charges (electromagnetic impulses) are very helpful in stealing a tank. You have two main options. The first is to purchase an EMP gadget, such as e.g. the EMP grenades, and take it with you (put them in one of the active slots of your current supremo).
The second method is to get the El Impulso supremo, whose special attack is to release a strong electromagnetic impulse. Remember that you can buy more supremos (backpacks with unique attacks) from Juan as part of the Advantage side quest, which you will automatically unlock in the final part of the campaign introduction (operation Guerrilla)
You must purchase El Impulso for 100 units of depleted uranium (this is a rare resource found in enemy locations) and set this Supremo as active.
You can encounter active tanks in military bases and while freely exploring the game world. Remember not to prematurely draw attention to yourself and to avoid the dangerous tank fire.
The plan is to detonate the EMP charge near the tank, which will be much easier to do with the supremo, which has a much larger range than a grenade.
If you did everything correctly, the tank will be sabotaged for a short while. Run up to its roof quickly and press the right analog stick to throw the operator out of the tank. This will allow you to steal the tank successfully.
Keeping the tank permanently - garage
With the stolen tank you can go to one of the Vehicle Pickup spots on the world map. Park the tank on the large rectangle in front of the vehicle selection station.
The 1944 Petrov HS-100 tank should be added to the garage, so when you interact with the phone booth where you can choose the vehicles, you should have the tank available from now on. This way, you won't have to repeat the entire theft, you will just need to visit any Vehicle Pickup marker.
