This page of the guide to Elex 2 contains key information about crafting. You'll learn what kind of items you can craft or upgrade, where to find crafting tables and what are the attribute and skill requirements before you can start crafting.

How to craft?

Elex 2 doesn't let you craft wherever you want - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Elex 2 doesn't let you craft wherever you want. You can only do so at crafting stations, usually in forms of workbenches - we've described all their possible types on further on this page.

Crafting is most convenient at the Bastion, the main quarters of Jax and his allies. You'll find all the crafting stations there, in the main building (check both floors) and the smaller buildings nearby. You can also find workbenches and crafting stations in faction headquarters and other bigger locations. You can access the workbenches for free - you don't have to pay traders or skill trainers for using them.

Crafting is not mandatory, but still recommended. Unlocking even a few crafting skills makes restocking and upgrading your gear much easier. That, in turn, will make the game itself easier as well.

Crafting can also serve as an additional source of income. You don't necessarily have to use everything you craft. You can also sell the crafter items to merchants. Try not to get rid of things that may come in handy later, such as weapons which requirements you're not meeting just yet.

Skills and attributes needed to craft

To craft and upgrade items you need skills from the Crafting category although not all of them - thievery-related skills, such as lockpicking, pickpocketing and hacking, can be found in this category as well - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

To craft and upgrade items you need skills from the Crafting category although not all of them - thievery-related skills, such as lockpicking, pickpocketing and hacking, can be found in this category as well.

To unlock a crafting category you need to upgrade its specific skill to at least level 1. You shouldn't stop there though, as leveling the skill up further can let you create entirely new items or items of higher quality.

Purchasing a skill may also be required to unlock another. For example, only after purchasing the ammo crafting skill will you be able to purchase the grenade crafting skill.

You have to purchase crafting skills from trainers who we've listed on the Skill trainers page - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

You have to purchase crafting skills from trainers who we've listed on the Skill trainers page. You must find a trainer specializing in the crafting category you want to learn and pay for training.

You must also sufficiently develop Jax's attributes. Training will be unavailable if they're too low. Unfortunately different kinds of crafting require different attributes - to create weapons you need Strength and Constitution, but to brew potions you need Intelligence and Dexterity. You must decide how to develop your character - you can try focusing equally on all attributes or develop two or three at the expense of being unable to craft some things.

Crafting and upgrading weapons

Creating and upgrading weapons is one of the most important crafting branches - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Creating and upgrading weapons is one of the most important crafting branches. To do it you need the Build Weapons skill which requires strength and constitution. Developing this skill further will let you craft higher-quality weapons.

There are two types of crafting tables associated with weapon building - one lets you craft melee weapons and shields, other lets you craft ranged weapons.

There are two main ways of crafting weapons - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

There are two main ways of crafting weapons:

  1. Combining damaged weapons - You can combine three identical damaged weapons or shields into a single repaired item. Its stats will be higher but the attribute requirements will remain the same, meaning you can use it right away.

Damaged weapons are common in the game world and can also be easily stolen from NPCs. Don't sell them, take advantage of your unlimited inventory.

In this case apart from having two identical weapons you also need other crafting materials - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide
  1. Crafting higher quality weapons - obtaining two identical undamaged weapons or shields lets you combine them into a single Enhanced item. Its stats will grow significantly but the attribute requirements will remain the same.

In this case apart from having two identical weapons you also need other crafting materials. They differ depending on the type of weapon you're crafting, scrap being the most common ingredient. You can loot these materials or buy them from traders specializing in selling resources.

Placing gemstones in weapon slots

Unlocking the crafting category described above also unlocks the Gemstone Socket subcategory, although it requires developed intelligence and dexterity - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Unlocking the crafting category described above also unlocks the Gemstone Socket subcategory, although it requires developed intelligence and dexterity. This skill is single-level only and introduces a new type of crafting. It can only be done at the Socketing Bench.

You can upgrade weapons with free slots - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

You can upgrade weapons with free slots. Placing Gemstones in them offers stat bonuses - the weapon may increase Jax's elemental resistances, strengthen his attacks or increase XP gain for defeating monsters. You can freely insert and remove the gemstones. There aren't any restrictions on how you can insert them.

The gemstones can also be upgraded in a separate tab of the crafting window - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

The gemstones can also be upgraded in a separate tab of the crafting window. Combining four stones of the same type and quality lets you create a single higher-quality gemstone offering better bonuses.

You can loot gemstones or buy them from traders - you should only buy them if you're missing a single gemstone for crafting a better one.

Crafting ammo and grenades

There are two separate skills related to crafting ammunition and grenades - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

There are two separate skills related to crafting ammunition and grenades:

  1. Create Ammunition - On Level 1 this skill lets you craft all kinds of common ammo, including arrows and crossbow bolts. Upgrading this skill to level 2 unlocks the possibility of crafting heavy ammo, such as rockets for a rocket launcher. You need cunning and dexterity to do so.
  2. Build Grenades - This is a single-level skill but it requires knowledge of a previous one. You also need to develop cunning and strength.
To create Ammo you must use the Ammo Press - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

To create Ammo you must use the Ammo Press. Unfortunately, both of the above-mentioned cases require you to have Blueprints for specific kinds of ammunition or grenades.

You can find blueprints in the game world or buy them from traders. You should look through traders' offers to find blueprints for your preferred ranged weapon, for example arrow blueprints if you like using a bow.

Preparing food

You can cook food by interacting with campfires found in camps as well as special crafting tables known as Hearths - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

You can cook food by interacting with campfires found in camps as well as special crafting tables known as Hearths. Cooking is divided into two main categories:

  1. Frying Food - This lets you get food without buying any crafting skills. You can loot raw food (mostly meat) off killed monsters. By cooking or frying it you'll make it edible increasing its HP regen bonus. Frying is free, all campfires and Hearths are also freely accessible.
Cooking meals - in this case you also don' - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Cooking meals - in this case you also don't need any crafting skills, though there are some other requirements:

  1. You need a Recipe for the specific dish. You can find recipes in the game world alongside other loot or buy them from traders.
  2. To cook a meal you need unique ingredients. They can be, for example, fruit vegetables, mushrooms or spices.

Brewing potions

Contrary to the previous category, to brew potions you need the Chemistry skill, the equivalent of alchemy from other RPGs - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Contrary to the previous category, to brew potions you need the Chemistry skill, the equivalent of alchemy from other RPGs. This skill requires intelligence and dexterity.

Chemistry has 3 levels - at level 1 you can only brew common potions. To craft better ones you must purchase levels 2 and 3 as well.

You brew potions at Lab Benches - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

You brew potions at Lab Benches. Unfortunately you need recipes in order to brew potions. Needless to say, they can be found in the game world or bought from traders.

There are many different potions available in the game, some healing you, others restoring mana, temporarily increasing your attack or resistances. Elex Drinks are especially interesting as they can grant you free XP, attributes or skills.

Upgrading the jetpack

You can upgrade your jetpack at the Jetpack Benches - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

You can upgrade your jetpack at the Jetpack Benches. You don't need to purchase skills from trainers in this case, though you still need skill points. The only difference is that you spend skill points directly in the crafting window. You need Intelligence to upgrade the jetpack but it doesn't have to be too high.

We've described how the jetpack and its upgrades work on the Jetpack page.

The exception to jetpack upgrades is increasing its fuel capacitity - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

The exception to jetpack upgrades is increasing its fuel capacitity. You need Fuel to upgrade it - you can loot it or buy it from traders. Don't get rid of the fuel you find, save it for later.

Minor crafting categories

There are two more categories in the crafting skill tree - Elex 2: Crafting - how to craft, types of crafting - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

There are two more categories in the crafting skill tree:

  1. The Mining skill lets you obtain more ore when mining. You should know you can still mine without investing any skill points in the skill (more precisely, as soon as you get a jackhammer). Buying the skill increases the amount of ore you get after using the jackhammer.

  1. The Animal Trophies skill has three levels and by upgrading it you'll loot more unique trophies and ingredients off the bodies of monsters and animals you kill. You can then use these items or sell them.
