Hacking is a useful skill in Elex 2. However, by default, the main character can only hack the simplest devices. If you want to hack more complex devices, you will need to find a skill trainer.

An examplary trainer that can teach Jax the ability to hack is Tjark from Fort - you can unlock him as a teacher if you cooperate with the Claws in the Berserkers' Trust quest and complete their initial assignments. Tjark will be available at the Claws hideout under the Fort.

After finding an object that can be hacked, you have to press the button to start a hacking mini-game - Elex 2: Hacking and opening safes - hacking mini-game - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

After finding an object that can be hacked, you have to press the button to start a hacking mini-game. You have to solve simple equations based on the characters appearing on the screen.

In the first example from the image above, all values have equal signs. This means that all numbers are the same and you can try 0000, 1111 etc.

In most cases, the codes are more complex - Elex 2: Hacking and opening safes - hacking mini-game - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

In most cases, the codes are more complex. In the second example, you can see the greater-than and less-than signs. This may help you in determining whether a given digit should be greater or lesser than the neighboring one.

The hacking mini-game is based on trial-and-error method. However, the colors help in determining the code:

  1. Green means that the given digit is correct and in the right place.
  2. Yellow means you found the correct digit, but it is in the wrong place. Try to enter it in a different spot.
  3. Red means that the given digit is not part of the code at all.

It is worth remembering the correct numbers and even if the mini-game ends, you can start it again and resume it knowing some of the code.

Note - Hacking in locations with NPCs is usually treated as a crime. Always make sure no one is looking your way or heading to a safe, so you can open it in peace.

Alternative way to open safes

Each electronic lock in the game has a predetermined combination - Elex 2: Hacking and opening safes - hacking mini-game - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Each electronic lock in the game has a predetermined combination. Knowing the correct code may allow you to enter it on the keyboard without having to complete the hacking mini-game.

You can look for the correct combinations on various types of notes and documents that may be lying somewhere in the area. You can also get hints from time to time from characters associated with the quests that require hacking. We tried to include the combinations in our walkthrough.
