This Dying Light 2 tutorial page explains what happens after Aiden dies and how the respawn mechanic works.

Last update: 08 February 2022

On this page of the Dying Light 2 guide, you will find information about the death of the main character and its consequences. In addition, we explain how the protagonist can respawn and how to resume the game.

Aiden's death and its consequences

Unfortunately, the death of the hero can happen quite often in Dying Light 2 - Dying Light 2: Dying and respawning - Basics - Dying Light 2 Guide

Unfortunately, the death of the hero can happen quite often in Dying Light 2 . It's because you will perform many dangerous actions through the game that can result in the hero's death.

If you want to reduce the risk of death, first of all, you should watch out while climbing and doing parkour because it is very easy to die after falling from a great height. This problem may be partially reduced by unlocking a paraglider and a skill that cushions the falls from medium heights. Another common reason of death is, of course, enemy attacks . In this case, do not engage in combat when your character is injured and move away from enemies after taking critical damage to regenerate the health bar without interrupting.

When you die, you may lose:

  1. Latest progress - things you've done or gained from the last created save to the moment of death.
  2. Bonus for traveling the game world at night (this only applies to the current night).

However, you do not have to worry about any penalties such as resetting your experience level, failing a quest, or having to pay a fee.

Respawning and continuing the game

After Aiden' - Dying Light 2: Dying and respawning - Basics - Dying Light 2 Guide

After Aiden's death, the hero respawns, and this can have two different effects:

  1. Respawning at the nearest bed - it can be the closest Safe Zone you've unlocked or an allied location (e.g. Bazaar). It is important to find new Safe Zones on the map and activate generators there - otherwise, you may respawn far from the place of death. Additionally, you can choose Aiden to respawn at sunrise or sunset - picking sunrise is a good idea if you want to end the night faster.
  2. Respawning at the last checkpoint - This only applies to selected missions. The game creates checkpoints in the background, and if you fail, you can be revived at one of them and repeat the last part of the mission and not have to start it all over again.
If you hand over the water towers and power plant to the Survivors, you can earn the Survival Revival reward, which will unlock a new variant of what happens after Aiden's death - Dying Light 2: Dying and respawning - Basics - Dying Light 2 Guide

If you hand over the water towers and power plant to the Survivors, you can earn the Survival Revival reward, which will unlock a new variant of what happens after Aiden's death. This reward allows the hero to be resurrected by one of the Survivors and continue the game immediately. You will be able to select it on the death screen (a separate button), but it will only work if you die in one of the districts assigned to the Survivors.

For more information on the mechanics of aligning districts to factions, see the separate page, Factions and city alignment.
