Last update: 19 January 2022

This page of the Dying Light 2 game guide contains information about the size of the in-game world. You will find out when you can start free exploration, whether you can return to the place from the prologue and whether the world has barriers.

Open world

You will get access to the first part of the open world after completing the third story mission (Markers of Plague) - Dying Light 2: Game world - is it big? - World and game information - Dying Light 2 Guide

You will get access to the first part of the open world after completing the third story mission (Markers of Plague). After starting the The Only Way Out mission, you can run around the map, explore the surroundings, complete side missions or look for collectibles.

The open world in Dying Light 2 offers a lot of additional content. However, it is worth mentioning that some things are blocked. You can still visit all places and try to complete the activities. However, your character's level and equipment play a crucial role here. Without sufficiently developed stamina, you will not be able to climb, for example, some towers or windmills.

First part of the map

As mentioned above, at the beginning, you only unlock access to the first part of the map - Dying Light 2: Game world - is it big? - World and game information - Dying Light 2 Guide

As mentioned above, at the beginning, you only unlock access to the first part of the map. You can explore four locations:

  1. Horseshoe
  2. Trinity
  3. Houndfield
  4. Quarry End

There you will find many additional activities that are worth doing. However, pay attention to the level of the districts - not all of them are suitable for exploration in the first hours of the game. It's best to use this terrain and time to strengthen your character, develop combat and parkour skills, and collect inhibitors to increase stamina and health.

Second part of the map

The second, much larger part of the map, can be accessed after completing A Place to Call Home main quest - Dying Light 2: Game world - is it big? - World and game information - Dying Light 2 Guide

The second, much larger part of the map, can be accessed after completing A Place to Call Home main quest. This location is much bigger, more difficult and richer. You will find even more resources, valuables and additional activities. You should move around this place in a particular way. Try using the grappling hook and paraglider as much as possible.

Prologue

The location we visit in the prologue is small and cannot be visited again - Dying Light 2: Game world - is it big? - World and game information - Dying Light 2 Guide

The location we visit in the prologue is small and cannot be visited again. This place is not on the map. There is no way to go back or fast travel to it. After completing the first mission (Pilgrim's Path), you will move to the city.

There are collectibles in the prologue, you can find them on the Prologue - Mementos page.

End of the map

Even though you can go beyond the "marked" districts, the map has an end - Dying Light 2: Game world - is it big? - World and game information - Dying Light 2 Guide

Even though you can go beyond the "marked" districts, the map has an end. It is quite clearly defined by the game. Yellow slime spreads around the areas to which you have access, damaging your immunity. It will kill you even if you have a maxed out character and a lot of additional healing items in the inventory.

If you want to go around this blockade and fly over the borders on a paraglider, at some point your character will be flying in place. You can fall, turn back, or wait for the hero to run out of stamina and fall down to the contaminated area.
