In this section of our game guide we explain what a Spice is in Dune Spice Wars, how to generate it and what you can exchange it for.
What is Spice for?
The Spice in Dune Spice Wars is potentially the most important product. But actually, is it? Some high-level factions can manage without Spice. In fact, it only has two uses:
- Exchange for Solari while trading with CHOAM at a fixed rate (or exchange by trading with other factions),
- Tax / bribe payment (depending on the faction) for the Empire.
While Solari can be earned in many ways, you cannot skip the Imperial fee. Each faction has different benefits and penalties related to skipping the imperial fee. Most often it's worth to sacrifice some Spice.
The average Spice to Solari ratio when you trade is 1: 2. However, if you have high exchange rate multipliers (which is easy in case of the Atreides faction), it makes sense to acquire Spice from others at a low price and exchange it in CHOAM at a higher rate.
But what happens if you regularly neglect the fee? Then the Empire will take matters into its own hands and send a squad of Sardaukar upon you. These are very strong units (neutral faction) that will attack your villages. You don't want to fight against them - so pay your taxes.
How do you earn Spice?
The only way to earn Spice is to collect it by using Harvesters at Refineries in regions where the Spice is available - as evidenced by the correct icon and purple dust on the sand. Only one Harvester can work in one region. You can of course take over other regions with Spice fields.
Crews increase the harvesting capacity of the Harvesters - this is one of two methods to increase the harvest. By developing the yellow technology tree from the middle branch, you will be able to place up to 4 crews in the Harvester, each of which increases your income by about 5 points and it costs Manpower. Crews will disappear when the Harvester gets destroyed / the village gets captured.
The second method is to increase the harvest of one Harvester by 20%by using a slow Ornithopter (does not work for Fremen). By clicking the Ornithopter on the Harvester, you make it follow it, increasing the harvesting speed.
One more test is the Gridex Plane. It allows you to build a Spice Silo, which increases production by 20% in the region and neighboring areas.
