Below you will find a throughout description of the enemies that you will come across several times throughout the game. Bosses are described in the next subchapter.

Common enemies

Assault Trooper

Most basic units, Privates among the alien forces - Common enemies - Listings - Duke Nukem Forever - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Most basic units, Privates among the alien forces. They can be distinguished by green armour covering their chest and crotch. They are equipped with AT Lasers and jetpacks that allow them to fly if only there is enough space. The first and weakest enemies you will come across.

The privates' superiors, easily distinguishable thanks to their red armour covering most of their body and masks. Just like the previous ones, they're equipped with jetpacks and additionally they can teleport, always trying to attack you from behind. They are also have a better gun, the AT Captain Laser. During the fight you first deprive them of their armour and only afterwards you can kill them. As they tend to teleport right after you shoot at them, the shotgun and railgun prove to be very efficient as they deal high damage with a single shot.

This slow "lizard" with a ring in his nose is a tough and dangerous enemy. From a distance he attacks with the Enforcer Gun described in the previous chapter and at close range he can deal big damage with melee attacks.

Sometimes Enforcers appear equipped with big shields held in the left hand. In order to kill such units you first need to get rid of their shields or attack from behind which might be quite problematic and not always possible.

Assault commander

By far the most popular enemy in the previous game, "pigs" are mutated EDF soldiers which can be noticed by the remains of their uniforms.

Pigs come in a few types and are equipped with various weapons used by the EDF - mainly pistols, shotguns, machineguns and rocket launchers. They also often use pipe bombs which they sometimes drop after dying.

Another type of pigs are weapon-less units which charge and jump at you, attacking with claws. Sometimes pigs fall into a berserker mode, regaining health and charging at you with claws.

The last type are Super Pig Cops, much larger than others of their kind and always use RPGs.

Octabrain

Octabrains are flying octopuses with glowing eyes. They can thrust items at you or shoot a telekinetic missile. they explode when killed, making them dangerous even after death.

Never use RPGs and pipe bombs against them and also don't try to stick a mine to them. In the first two cases they will just throw the them back at you and with a mine attached to them they will go berserk and charge at you, trying to catch you in the explosion.

Octabrains can swim, so you will also meet them underwater.

Octababy

This little ugly creatures are Octabrains in larval stage. Luckily they aren't even half as dangerous as their adult form and can be even trampled as they cannot fly. They attack in groups and try to jump at you with their claws.

They hatch in groups of three from the bodies of the abducted and impregnated women you will come across during The Hive.

They can swim as well, so be ready to come across them during underwater levels.

Pregnator

Pregnators impregnate abducted women and can be always found in infected areas - Common enemies - Listings - Duke Nukem Forever - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Pregnators impregnate abducted women and can be always found in "infected" areas. They hatch from eggs growing on the ground, walls and even ceilings. They attack similarly to Octababies but are also able to shoot acid from afar.

Alien Fighter

Small and fast alien ships. They appear only in open areas and usually fly in groups of three. Don't waste rockets on them, as they are too fast for them. Stationary machineguns work best.

Dropship

Large Dropships used to drop enemy forces. Much more resistant than Fighters, they however don't dispose much firepower.

They can be shot down using only rockets or stationary machineguns.

Gunship

Much more dangerous than the small and fragile Fighters and more resistant than Dropships, they attack with laser and rockets.

They can be shot down only using rockets or stationary machineguns.

Tentacle

Spiked tentacles can be found only in areas infected by aliens, growing on walls, ground and ceilings - Common enemies - Listings - Duke Nukem Forever - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Spiked "tentacles" can be found only in areas infected by aliens, growing on walls, ground and ceilings. They attack when you get close, but it can be stopped by shooting them. They often appear accompanied by a glowing eye which serves them as their own. Shoot the eye to neutralise the tentacles for a short while.

Neither the tentacles or the eye can be killed, only temporarily neutralized.

Rat

Normally not dangerous, they pose a threat once Duke gets shrinked - Common enemies - Listings - Duke Nukem Forever - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Normally not dangerous, they pose a threat once Duke gets shrinked. They attack by jumping at you with their teeth and usually in groups. One pistol shot is enough to kill them.

When Duke isn't shrinked, he can stomp on these rodents, put them into microwaves, throw or even "squeeze out" ;)
