If you're using internet connection you can participate indirectly in interactions with other players. Why indirectly? Only your pawns are interacting. Each player can issue his main pawn to online recruitment. If it succeeds and some player will want to recruit that pawn, he will accompany him and help him in the game. Then he will return to you. What do you gain from it? In addition to location in the ranking your pawn can obtain additional experience, knowledge about fighting monsters which you haven't faced yet (comments during battle), bring you all found items and gifts received from other players and the so-called Rif Crystals which are the currency used by pawns and they are the payment for serving other player.

On the other hand, you can also hire a pawn from other player. Not only you will help someone by training his pawn, but additionally you can find a well designed companion (assigned abilities, equipment). If you are new in Dragon's Dogma, there is great chance that pawns of other players will be of much greater help for you than the ones found in the game world and random generated.
