Why can't I jump?
This is not a game error or the effect of unassigned button - Doom 64 doesn't have any jumping mechanics. This is in direct line with the fact that the game was produced in the 1990s. The classic parts of the Doom series also didn't have this feature.
Lack of jumping option means that you can't even jump on small ledges or low-level floors. Fortunately, you can climb stairs normally even if they have high steps.
You have to look for other ways to get there. It is worth noting that you can run on adjacent ledges - an example of such a location is shown in the picture above. If you move fast enough, the hero won't fall, but will reach the next platform.
How do I save the game?
You can save your progress in Doom 64 in the following two ways:
- From the pause menu level - these are manual saves.
- By using the quick save option - this is initially blocked as none of the gaming controller buttons are assigned to quicksave and quickload features. You can change this by checking the control options. Find Menu Quicksave and Menu Quickload items and assign any unused buttons to them. In the example shown in our screenshot we have assigned Quicksave to the Triangle button and Quickload to the right knob (press R3).
Note - There are no auto saves in Doom 64. Remember to regularly save your game (use manual saves and quicksaves).
What's with the passwords?
You can find the password input option in the main menu. They are an alternative to save games. You can enter a ready-made password and, for example, move to a particular level with a specific progress. You can find "ready" passwords on the Internet. They will work with every version of Doom 64.
You can read the password every time you complete a level. Passwords aren't stored anywhere, so if you don't want to lose your password, you have to write it down somewhere.
Why is it so dark in the game?
This is a deliberate action of the developers - some locations are very dark, for example, to scare the player with attacks of monsters that were hiding in the darkness. Don't try to brighten up the screen at any cost, as subsequent locations will be well lit again.
In some missions, the game gives you tools to deal with the overwhelming darkness - for example, you can find goggles for better visibility, or a switch to turn on the light in the room.
How to get the Unmaker gun?
The best weapons - BFG and Unmaker can be found in more than one location in the game. An example spot, where you can find the Unmaker weapon, is shown in the screenshot - it's a chamber located in mission 12 - Altar of Pain. Fortunately, even if you miss a chance to get this weapon, you may find it later in the game. All best weapons are also available before you take part in the final boss battle in Doom 64.
How to get to the yellow and blue key in mission 16?
In mission 16 called Blood Keep, you may encounter some problems with obtaining the blue and yellow keys (just after you have acquired a red key). To solve this problem, find the interactive button shown in the picture. You can recognize the area with the button by the blue walls and unique floor. You can easily reach the room with the yellow key by pressing the button.
How to lower the podium with the blue key in mission 18?
In mission 18, called Spawned Fear, you will reach the room with a blue key on the podium. Since the hero can't jump, you can't easily pick up that key.
Go back to the previous room and stand on a small floor in the corner of the room. Aim at the button marked in the picture and fire at it with any weapon. Hitting the button will lower the podium - you can take the Blue key now.
