Disco Elysium: Pay for damages - walkthrough Disco Elysium guide, walkthrough
Last update: 25 March 2021
On this page of the Disco Elysium game guide, you will find a walkthrough for the Pay for damages side task.
In the task Pay for damages in Disco Elysium, you need to pay Garte (cafe manager in Whirling-In-Rags) for damage caused to the hotel room. You're going to need as many as 130 Real to complete this task, and getting such a large amount of money within the first day isn't going to be that easy at all.
If you pass the red Savoir Faire skill check and run away from Garte once he starts talking about money, the debt will be reduced to 100 Real. You can also try to beg or apologize.
Money from Kim
During gameplay, you can use various methods of earning cash, however, none of them will allow you to collect such a large sum of money. At 10 PM, Kim will want to talk to Harry and a text puff will be displayed on his character card. The cop will offer to help and say he owns Radiant spinners, an item that can be sold for cash to pay off the debt. Get over to Kim's car, search it and grab the valuable item.
After getting Radiant spinners, go to the Pawnshop and talk to the owner. Roy will pay for the item 200 Real, and Kim will hand you as many as 130 Real to cover the bill in the Whirling-In-Rags (or 100 if you have managed to get the fee reduced).
Time to return to the hotel and pay Garte for damages. During the conversation, you can choose one of the three available dialog options - you can choose the one that will appeal to you the most.
Note - you will have to pay for the next nights yourself. If you don't, you'll have to wait out the night. Sleeping isn't just about speeding up the time - you're treating health and morale at a pretty low cost compared to medical supplies.
Money from Joyce
If you don't want to make Kim say goodbye to the spinners, you can “beg” Joyce for 100 Real, so you can pay for the room. However, this requires passing a white Volition skill check.
