Career and Rallycross modes in DiRT Rally 2.0 DiRT Rally 2.0 guide, tips

From this chapter you will learn details about the career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0, in both the rally and the Rallycross competitions. We present information about the difficulty level, as well as the Rallycross regulations. We advise on how to manage your team and garage improvements.

NOTE

The game requires a constant connection to the Internet while playing the single player career mode.

Career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0

The career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0 looks similar to the first installment - that is, it differs severely from those found in other racing games. Aside from daily and weekly challenges, this is the only game mode in which you can earn credits to purchase new cars, upgrades to them and pay for training for your crew. You can choose any car in your garage, but you cannot set the difficulty level of the game. It is set in accordance to your skills.

You start your first competition from the easiest level, "Open". If you take a place in the top three, you will advance and be able to race in the higher level competition. Each subsequent level is characterized by a better level of artificial intelligence and a gradually increasing number of events to pass. The list of levels is as follows:

 1. Open
 2. Clubman
 3. Professional
 4. Elite
 5. Masters

You can individually adjust the level of the artificial intelligence only in the free-play mode, as well as personally defined competitions, but you will not develop your team and earn credits in those modes.

Practical advice

While playing in the career mode, you not only fight for the best position, but you also need to take care of your car and your team. The credits you earn will be used to:

 1. Purchase engine mapping.
 2. Purchase upgrade parts.
 3. Train the crew.
 4. Repair your cars.

With each kilometer you make, you will be developing the engine mapping. Subsequent levels increase its performance, but at the same time accelerate wear. You can, however, always go back to the previous, more durable version. On the other hand, improvements to the clutch, brakes, shock absorbers and differential come with advantages only and increase the protection against wear of those parts - you should always invest into them. At the very beginning, however, you should focus on developing your crew. Their higher level allows you to repair cars cheaper and quicker - and car damages will be more of a problem for you than wearing off parts.

{ramkazielona}
Remember that by choosing the first free car in your garage - Lancia Fulvia - all of the repairs will be done for free. This means that by playing through the career mode with this car, you will always only earn credits for upgrades - you will not be losing them for repairs and thus for participating in the competitions.
{/ramkazielona}

Remember about doing the necessary repairs and changing tires before venturing on the track. Do not exceed the repair time, as it will translate into worse positions in the classifications. You can always choose quick repair instead of the standard one and change entire parts only between the competitions. You can also rely on the game suggestions and select the automatic repairs. The crew will choose the most crucial elements requiring repairs and its type.

Changing tires is a part of strategy that has a big impact on higher difficulty levels. The softer the tires, the better the grip, but also faster wear, which will influence the behavior of the car at the end of the race. Their selection depends largely on your driving style - it is a good idea to leave the default set of medium mixture at the beginning.

Rallycross

The Rallycross competition is easier than the rally and the races are shorter here as well. Play through them if you are in need of additional credits. At the beginning you take part in four qualifying rounds, four laps each. Although there are only 5 cars on the track, there are 20 participants. Unfortunately, even if you always finish in the first place, your time might still not be enough to quality for the quarterfinals along with the best twelve of participants.

You should remember about repairs in this mode as well. Try to take off well and block the rivals' way, as they will also have no qualms to cut you off. Watch out for changes on the surface - from gravel to asphalt - when the grip changes dramatically.

Each track has a designated Joker lap.

In every Rallycross competition you must complete a single Joker lap. This is an alternative route through the lap, usually increasing its duration. In each competition you need to complete the Joker lap once, but if you do a false start - twice. Designating a lap as Joker is entirely up to you. It is worth playing through it at the beginning or at most at the penultimate lap - this will allow you to replay it in case of losing position.
