On this page of our Diablo 4 guide, we show how to increase the amount of carried Healing Potions. Moreover, we explain how to increase the number of Potion Charges, and how to improve the effectiveness of Healing Potions (so they restore more HP after consumption).
Initial potion limit
In Diablo 4 , the healing system was reworked compared to previous installments of the series. During the game, you have something called Potion Charges - the number of them symbolizes how many healing potions you have at the moment.
By default, you have 4 charges and the current amount is displayed in the lower left corner of the screen.
After spending a Charge, you need to replenish the supply by picking up a potion left by an enemy or a destroyed object. This is the only way to replenish health potions.
Moreover, you won't be able to take more than 4. In case of encountering a Potion Charge when fully stocked on Charges, use a potion to heal yourself fully (even if damage taken is low) so you can pick the next one right up.
Increasing the limit
4 Potion Charges isn't much, but you can increase the supply with your progress in the game. The number of Potion Charges is related to Renown, which is earned separately for each region (you can read more about it on a dedicated page of the guide). Renown Points are received e.g. for completing side quests, exploring locations, or visiting dungeons in a particular region.
After a certain amount of Renown Points is collected, you can exchange them for a reward. Among them, there is an option to get more Potion Charges (screenshot).
After claiming this reward, the amount of carried charges should increase by one.
More effective health potions
Another method of staying alive is unlocking more potent healing potions so that each use replenishes more HP. This can be done after unlocking Healing Potion Upgrading priority quest.
During this quest, you'll meet up with Veroka - choose the dialogue option about increasing the potency of Healing Potions.
To unlock better versions of Healing Potions you need:
- gold/crafting ingredients - these can be plants that can be bought from the alchemist or found as loot in the game world (by examining the interactive bushes);
- to advance to the required experience level (level 10 in the example in the picture).
Once the upgrade is purchased, the number of Potion Charges will remain the same, but the available charges will replenish more health.
