Dante has the most skills out of all characters in Devil May Cry 5. The reason for that is the number of weapons used by Dante.

Abilities

  1. Trigger Heart - extends the duration of Devil Trigger; a must-have.
  2. Enemy Step - jump by bouncing off of an enemy.
  3. Get More Orbs - this ability allows you to collect Orbs from afar. You don't have to run around to collect Orbs - they will be moving toward Dante automatically.
  4. Ex Provocation - the most expensive skill. It gives you a new Provocation (R key) that allows you to make fun of enemies and increase your Style Rank (this will give you more Red Orbs).
  5. Stinger 1, 2 - Dante slides towards an enemy and stabs them with his sword; smaller enemies are pushed backward instantly. One of the most basic skills in the game. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  6. Million Stab - this ability is related to Stinger. After performing Stinger, release the lock-on button and hold the attack button (LMB). Repeatedly tap the attack button to deal even more damage.
  7. Drive 1, 2 - creates an energy wave that damages enemies standing on its way. This attack is a little more difficult to use. It doesn't deal much damage unless you charge it. How to use: hold Shift + backward to forward + LMB. Hold LMB to charge the attack. The upgraded version allows you to attack a few times - press LMB after using Drive to create another energy wave.
  8. Swords Formation 1, 2, 3 - passive ability; hold LMB to summon demon swords that float around Dante. They automatically parry and attack nearby enemies. This skill consumes two DT bars - buy it when you have enough Red Orbs for its upgrades and when you have more DT gauge bars.

Swords (Rebellion, Sparda, Devil Sword Dante)

Both Rebellion and Sparda have various skills that you can purchase. Remember, when you switch to another sword, you will have to buy separate skills for that weapon. You can save Red Orbs on upgrading the final sword.

Dante's final sword is called Devil Sword Dante - you get it during the story mode. Below you can find its skills:

Balrog

Balrog consists of gloves and boots - Dante will use his fists and legs to attack enemies. Hold Shift + backward + LMB to switch between Blow and Kick Modes.

  1. Bantam Revenge - used in Blow Mode: dodge an enemy and then counter them with a punch.
  2. Fly Dragon - used in Blow Mode: used after Heavy Jolt. Launch an enemy in the air after charging at them. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  3. Updraft - used in Kick Mode: launch an enemy in the air. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  4. Rolling Blaze - every jump creates a small blast wave that deals minor damage and throws enemies off balance.
  5. Ignition 1, 2, 3 - deal a few fast blows to charge Balrog (you will see flames coming out of Dante's weapon). Repeatedly tap the attack button to extend the combo. Increases damage.

King Cerberus

The last melee weapon, you get it near the end of the main storyline.

  1. Revolver - Dante spins in mid-air. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  2. Crystal - strikes enemies in a straight line with ice spikes: How to use: hold Shift + backward + LMB.
  3. Ice Age - creates an ice barrier around Dante that protects him from attacks. How to use: hold Shift + backward to forward + LMB.
  4. Long Revolver - works similarly to the basic Revolver but is more powerful (and slightly more difficult to use). Hold MMB to charge the weapon. Then, press: hold Shift + forward + release MMB.
  5. Thunder Clap - creates lightning orbs that slowly move towards enemies. Hold MMB to charge the weapon. Then, press: hold Shift + backward + release MMB.

Cavaliere

Cavaliere is great against groups of enemies and slow bosses. Good for building the combo meter.

  1. Cross Line - attack aimed at a single enemy: Dante crosses his twin Cavaliere. Activates Gear Wheel. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  2. Slipstream 1, 2 - a powerful attack that can be chained with other attacks (a must-have). Move towards the enemy and use the momentum to cross Cavaliere; can be chained with Cavaliere Combo A or B. How to use: hold Shift + backward to forward + LMB. The upgraded version lengthens the movement distance before the attack.
  3. Highside - this attack launches an enemy in the air. The attack is slow so use it wisely. How to use: hold Shift + backward + LMB.
  4. Braking - drag an airborne enemy or attack a demon standing on the ground when Dante is in the air by pressing them to the ground and damaging them with Gear Wheel. How to use: hold Shift + backward + LMB (in the air).
  5. Idling - a powerful combo that deals a lot of damage and sends the target flying. How to use: hold Shift + backward + 3x LMB

Ranged weapons (Ebony & Ivory, Coyote-A, Kalina Ann)

Every firearm has only one upgrade - Charge Shot. Its effect depends on a weapon:

  1. Coyote-A - a powerful shot that pushes enemies backwards and knocks them down.
  2. Ebony & Ivory - charges shots; the higher the level, the more charged bullets you can shoot.
  3. Kalina Ann - creates a huge explosion upon impact.
  4. Double Kalina Ann - deals more damage but requires more time to charge.

To charge a shot, for example, to level 2, you have to hold the button for a longer period of time. The game informs you about charging your shot to level 1 by showing sparks, making your weapon light up etc.

Dr. Faust

This hat, received from Nico, has special functions - if you make an enemy wear it (throw the hat at an enemy), that demon will drop plenty of Red Orbs every time you hit him. Dr. Faust also has special attacks that cost you your own Red Orbs.

  1. Man in the Red - attack an enemy with your Red Orbs. First mode: a barrier made out of Red Orbs surrounding Dante. Second mode: aim the barrier at an enemy and shoot Red Orbs. How to use: hold Shift + backward + RMB; press again to perform the follow-up attack.
  2. Hat Trick - inflict damage on all enemies hit by Set Hat while absorbing Red Orbs. How to use: press RMB when you catch the hat after it returns to Dante.
  3. Dr. Faust 2, 3, 4 - passive ability; each new level increases the amount of earned and expended Orbs while using Dr. Faust. Allows you to deal more damage by spending more Red Orbs.

Dante has access to 4 different Styles - you can switch between them during fights. They alter some of Dante's attacks and give him new moves. Each Style has 3 upgrades.

Sin Devil Trigger

Sin Devil Trigger gives Dante new special abilities. This form doesn't last long. You unlock it later in the game. Sin Devil Trigger has its own gauge.

  1. Sin Stinger - fly towards the enemy and cut him with your sword; hold the attack button to extend the flight distance. How to use: hold Shift + forward + LMB.
  2. Sin Inferno - hit the ground to cause an explosion and a blast wave with a large radius. How to use: hold Shift + backward + LMB.
  3. Demolition - hold the ranged weapon swap button to make an enemy you are locked on explode.
  4. The Luce - Dante shoots lasers. How to use: hold the melee weapon swap button to fire a barrage of lasers.
  5. Quadruple S - when you reach SSS Style Rank, press the Devil Trigger button (F) while the SDT gauge is glowing to disengage the transformation.
