Destiny 2: Weapons and armor - how to get? Destiny 2 Guide

Last update: 28 March 2021

In this chapter of our game guide you will find information on how to acquire weapons and armor in Destiny 2.

In Destiny 2, new weapons and armor elements can be acquired in many different ways. Many items are found during routine activities such as missions and patrols, and even after defeating opponents. Here are some key pieces of information about collecting equipment in Destiny 2.

Weapons and armor in Destiny 2 - How to obtain?

New weapons and armor in Destiny 2 can be acquired in 4 ways:

  1. By collecting Engrams (glowing multi-walled cubes) that sometimes drop from defeated enemies;
  2. By looting chests - encountered with varying frequency in different regions while touring the world, and received in groups after completing events on the server;
  3. As rewards, often one of several items to choose from, for completing tasks and quests (fighting in The Crucible, or completing Milestones);
  4. While trading with NPCs in the bases / outposts - virtually every vendor has a few things to offer, so if any of your items stand out strongly from the rest, it's worth buying them quickly from NPCs.
Sometimes you will find encrypted Engrams - decrypting them is not a problem, you only have to find the right person - Destiny 2: Weapons and armor - how to get? - Equipment - Destiny 2 Game Guide

Dismantling redundant weapons

To purchase equipment you need a currency such as Glimmer. You will receive it as standard reward for performing missions and events. In addition, you will gain it from dismantling unused and redundant pieces of equipment, as well as for defeating more difficult opponents when exploring the world, or looting chests. To disassemble the part, select it in the kit and select the key specified on the bottom bar then hold it until the process is complete. The higher gets your level, the better items are being offered by NPCs. However, it is not always worth changing equipment after every level up - especially since you will often find better items in the world (which also adapt to your level, so on the 8 - 950 Gear Score you will not find as weak things as you found on 4 - 800 Gear Score).

Legendary Items - How to farm them?

The best way to get Legendary Engrams with random items of particular class is to take an interest in a single planet. At each NPC of a certain region (from which you have taken the main quests and tasks marked on the map with the character icon), you can exchange Tokens to fill the engram's "unlock" bar. There are several ways to get tokens:

  1. Defeat strong enemies while exploring the map (mini-bosses, you don't often encounter them);
  2. Clear the Lost Sectors;
  3. Find loot chests in various locations;
  4. Perform patrols, side missions and public events on the planet.

If sightseeing is of little interest to you, the best idea might be the patrols, Lost Sectors and public events. The only exception is when you know the event and have a group of people to help you finish the challenge quickly (the average duration is approx. 5 min).

Resources

In addition to tokens, you can also collect resources, different on each planet. They do not have the importance of a token, but you do not have to complete any quests to acquire them. They are randomly scattered across the map and change their location. They are individual for each player. To collect them, all you need to do is approach them and hold the action key. Sometimes they can be seen from afar, so going out to a high position and looking around is a good idea (although due to their value, looking for them is only a good idea when you feel like it or have to complete a certain Bounty task).

Improved Ghost

Optionally, you can equip yourself with a Ghost upgrade (your robot) at the Eververse (Tess Everis on The Farm or in The Tower) for the price of Bright Dust [a few modifications you get after the end of the story], which will detect secrets near you (be careful as one modification only affects one planet). You can get Bright Dust from dismantling cosmetic items, or you can buy it for real currency (which in the game is represented as Silver).

Resources on each planet come in different forms: green and blue (e.g. crystal and shard). Blue once have a slightly higher value - but we should not attach any importance to this, especially since their location on the map is random. The following resources can be found on individual planets:

  1. Io - Phaseglass Needle;
  2. Nessus - Microphasic Datalattice;
  3. EDZ - Dusklight Shards;
  4. Titanium - Alkane Dust;
  5. Mercury - Simulation Node;
  6. Mars - Seraphite;
  7. Tangled Edge - Etheric Spiral;
  8. The Moon - Helium Filaments.
