Old Monk is a very interesting boss. If you are connected to the internet during your playthrough, there is a good chance that the boss will be taken over by the player. The boss, or rather the player, will then use their current weapon, but they will also gain the option to cast spells - the same option that the AI-controlled boss has, too. The following boss fight description concerns the offline mode. If you have a problem or you don't want to fight a real player, go to the game settings and select the offline mode.
General advice
- In the offline mode, the boss attacks with claws and magic. These attacks are very easy to counter, and the boss can be easily bypassed.
- The less health the boss has, the more magical souls will appear over his head. These souls attack only when you are very close to the boss, so be prepared to escape if you approach him.
- The Old Monk can counter your attacks! Therefore, don't attack by spamming R1 when turned directly at him, because then he most likely will make a successful counter and hurt you quite badly.
- The same goes for you, you can also counter his attacks. What's more, you can approach him from behind and perform a backstab. However, the boss will frequently dodge this attack, even though it is doable.
- In online mode, the player can use healing items and other consumables. This happens because the player who takes the role of the boss is treated as someone who haunts your world.
How to defeat the boss?
It's very easy, both for players who fight in close combat and at a distance. It is important to approach the boss from the side, allowing him to attack. When you are behind the boss, you can attack him all the time, because the boss's balance is low, so he will not react to such attacks.
You can also counter his attacks, or perform a backstab to hurt him very badly with a single attack. If you move away from the Old Monk, he will start to use magic attacks more often, which are actually much more dangerous than claw attacks.
