On this page of the guide to Deathloop, you will find a walkthrough of Colt's Prologue you play at the beginning of the campaign for the first time - it is the main task, The Longest Day. Explore this place
After watching a brief introduction cut-scene with Julianna, you will wake up on the beach for the first time on Manor Cliffs (this is the starting area in the game, to which you return after death).
Proceed towards the bunker visible in the distance, adjacent to the beach. Along the way, you will learn the basics of character movement and will find the first firearms - LIMP-10. You can optionally test it on nearby targets. You'll find plenty of ammo here.
Get in the bunker and go down the stairs. You will reach a room with a map of the island with notes on Visionaries attached to it - they're the main antagonists in the game. It is worth adding all the notes to your journal.
Next to the map, you will also find the first trinket - these items guarantee various bonuses to stats or new abilities, but they can be placed in active slots only in between missions (the first break will not occur for some time).
Stairs on the right will lead you to the location with Hackamajig - it's a special gadget for hacking objects from the game world. You can immediately use it on the interactive antenna - you need to hold L1 and wait for the hacking process to finish.
The new tunnel will lead you to a closed door with an electronic lock. Before you find the combination, you can enter the code 0451 and unlock an extra trophy.
Find the code
Go to the right and use a kick or a firearm to destroy boards blocking further passage. Quickly go through shallow water because contact with it injures the hero. You have to completely avoid deepwater in the following areas because Colt will drown immediately.
Follow the path running along the water, and jump or climb to new shelves. Perform a long jump (pressing the left knob activates the sprint) to reach the damaged balcony.
The game will soon suggest testing the sneaking option - it's activated by pressing the circle. Near, you will find a machete - this weapon can be used for executions and attacking opponents in hand-to-hand combat.
You can sneak up behind a single enemy to perform a stealth attack (press R1 when the skull icon appears). You will also learn the tag mechanics.
Go forward. In the next location, you will meet several enemies, and the game will suggest you testing tagging opponents - this is a good way to track their moves and check their equipment (for more information, hold any direction on the D-pad).
Before doing it, you can also sabotage the scout's walkie-talkie to stop him from triggering an alarm - you need to use Hackamajig for this. You can get rid of enemies in any way - by killing them silently (you can also jump down on enemies and press R1 in flight) or defeating them in open battles (in this case, stay on the move and look for covers). If you get injured, there are Fiz-Pop bottles in the area - they are one of the ways to regenerate the health.
Head towards the big residence. You can get in hacking the antenna located above the front door. This will draw the blinds and you will be able to go inside.
Exploring the residence is optional, but on the ground floor, you will find the first healing station - a much more efficient way of regenerating health than Fiz-Pop drinks.
Ultimately, you have to go upstairs and examine the only room available. You will find there a lever, and pulling it will play the cut-scene.
After you're back in the room, jump out the window to play another cut-scene and "deliberately" die to restart the loop.
Examine the postcard
You have to go through the beach and the bunker area once again. Once again, reach the place where Colt found Hackamajig ealier. This time, the main character will take a closer look at the postcard attached to it so you will learn the right combination - in our case, it was 3663.
Important note - many combinations, puzzles, and passwords in the game are randomly generated, and in your campaign, they don't necessarily have to correspond to those in our guide. Always do all the steps required to learn the code or password because the ones from the guide may not be working.
Use the keypad
Go forward, reaching the doors which you couldn't open in the previous time loop. Interact with the keyboard and enter the recently learned code.
Find my Updaam flat
Explore the new part of the bunker. Along the way, you will find a new unique loot - a trinket to install on the weapon and Strelak Sapper Charge. According to the tutorial, it has three uses - you can "create" grenades, proximity charges, or booby traps. The stock of these weapons will be renewed after reaching each subsequent location. You can select them by pressing or holding the left direction on the D-pad.
A little further, you will also find a slab with the Reprise power. It allows for two resurrections per mission and will automatically active. We described this mechanics in more detail on the page Death and respawn.
You will also load the preparations menu for the next mission for the first time - Colt is planning his next steps during his visits to the tunnels. A large part of this preparation is a tutorial, and as a result, you have to follow the instructions according to the messages. You will learn new mechanics too. The list of activities includes:
- Review the discoveries and loots you gathered.
- Explanation of the leads -they are similar to missions.
- Get acquainted with the Loadout window - it's where you select the equipment. You will be able to place a recently found trinket for a double jump in one of the active slots and install the example weapon upgrade.
- After completing the tutorial, you need to click on the button to depart to Updaam district (in the morning) - it's one of the four main districts on Blackreef island.
Starting from here, you will have more freedom because a large part of Updaam will become available for you (to explore some locations, you would have to discover some leads or visit in the specified time of the day).
If you want to focus on completing the prologue, follow the current mission marker, which should appear on the screen. If you already want to explore a little bit of the game world, we recommend seeing the pages Tips to start, Combat and stealth, World exploration, and Hacking in our guide. There, you will find numerous tips on eliminating or bypassing opponents or avoiding detection by cameras and turrets.
The marker will lead you to an apartment building with closed main entrances. Get to the roof shown in the picture, where there may be several enemies - it would be a good idea to get rid of them without alarming the whole area. You will find an open window here, through which you can get to Luxury Suite.
Search my stuff
In the apartment, be sure to search the desk. You will find Spiker weapon on it (it is silent and shoots nails) and Minicom - you can read a note and few saved messages on the computer. Exploration of the rest of the apartment is optional, although you can find collectibles or loot.
Locate Loop Control
The Locate Loop Control is your new destination, but it's in a different district of Blackreef. This means that you have to leave the Updaam district first.
Once again, you have the freedom of action - you can focus on advancing further in the prologue or continue to explore Updaam freely. To resume the described mission, reach the descents into canals marker. You have to interact with one of the gates, re-enter the code from the prologue, and reach the exit. Each time you have to confirm that you want to leave the district.
The game will show the preparation window for the next mission. You can optionally take a closer look at its various tabs (this time without the steps imposed by the tutorial) or immediately click on the button departure to The Complex district (it will be the middle of the day).
Just like with Updaam, you can focus on exploring The Complex (except inaccessible areas) or follow the marker to the mission objective. Loop Control Center is adjacent to the bunker, but you do not have to go to the bunker, and you can choose the path running next to it. After reaching the place, we advise you to hack the sensor and only then think about the next steps - you can fight a small group of opponents or sneak past them and use the entrance located under the hacked camera.
Find the off switch
Two pairs of stairs lead to the main room of the Loop Control Center, and several opponents are there. They stand close to each other, and this is an excellent opportunity to use, for example, grenades and a rifle.
No matter how you eliminate the enemies, find the lever that turns on the projector - it's shown in the picture.
Reactivate the device
Unfortunately, the projection will be interrupted because the battery has run out. Now you will find out how to charge the batteries in the game - you need to pick up an empty or partially depleted battery and get it to the battery charging station - one of them is in the Loop Control Center. Wait patiently until it is charged to maximum. Then remove it from the slot and return with it to the lever. Supplying the power will allow you to watch the projection to the end.
Search the Security Office
The Security Office is the new mission objective located in the Fristad Rock district. This means that you have to return to the canals to leave the Complex currently explored. After making (optional) preparations for the journey, choose the Fristad Rock as your destination. You'll be there in the afternoon.
AEON Security Officeis at the end of the pier. Going to this location, you can eliminate or bypass opponents in the ways you have already learned, as well as engage in optional activities - exploration or hacking. Beware of mines and laser traps that you can encounter on the way to your destination. As a reminder, they can be detonated, bypassed, or disarmed (unfortunately, the latter option does not apply to mines). You can also find an enemy turret and reprogram it with hacking.
The entrances to the s Security Office are closed. You can solve this problem using a Hackamajig on a device with an antenna inside the building. You will see it by standing next to the small shutters - an example place shows the above picture.
In the Security Office, find a note (Paint-Smudged Missive) shown in the picture - reading it will allow you to learn the combination for the safe (in our case, it was 7615). Exploration of the rest of the rooms is completely optional.
Open the safe
You have to return to Updaam district - head to the Fristad Rock exit to reach the canals. Choose Updaam as your destination - you will get there in the evening.
Once again, you have to get to Colt's apartment and keep in mind that the time of day affects the district's appearance. Differences may include:
- other starting location;
- other enemy locations - in Updaam, expect more enemies at night and watch out for snipers in particular;
- different placement of traps and protection systems - watch out for turrets;
- unlocked or blocked access to some areas of the district.
To the Luxury Suite, you will get as before - get to the roof and enter through the open window. The safe is not hidden - you will find it in the central part of the apartment. It will be open now - it's been ransacked by Julianna before. Read the message from her (Teachable moment) and listen to the conversation on the radio.
Return in the morning
Before you do anything else, Julianna's first invasion will likely occur. We've described this topic in more detail on the page Invasions - what are they?. In a nutshell:
- Julianna can attack Colt at random times, and it can be controlled by SI or a player.
- Fighting Julianna isn't mandatory, but it can be hard to avoid. If you want to take up the challenge, then in the described mission, defend yourself in Colt's suite while waiting for the arrival of the antagonist. You can also use your free time to change weapons, heal, or set up a trap.
- Defeated Julianna will leave behind a random slab (supernatural power) or improvement of the power you already have. This allows you to access new powers more quickly without having to eliminate other Visionaries.
- Whether you fought Julianna or not, you have to unlock the access to the tunnels. To do this, you have to hack the antenna which marker will appear on the screen. It should be on the roof next to the apartment.
When you return to your hiding place in the tunnels, you will be forced to start a new day, and it will be a new loop. By default, this is associated with losing all:
- power (slabs) and trinkets,
- weapons (except machetes).
After advancing to the next day, you will have to get the same items once again. You will be able to solve this problem later in the campaign - see the page Keeping powers and weapons - how?.
After advancing to the new loop, you will wake up back on the beach. You have to repeat the whole beginning involving reaching the tunnels, and you can focus only on picking up and using the basic equipment (weapon, Hackamajig, sapper charge, Reprise slab). You already know the combination for closed doors and it doesn't change.
After reaching the Updaam district, repeat getting to the suite with safe. Thanks to getting to the safe in the morning, Julianna didn't have time to plunder it yet. Use previously learned combination to open it.
Inside the safe, you will find an LPP document that contains information on the identity and locations of 8 Visionaries (main antagonists). This is the end of a long prologue and you advance to the main campaign. You can now:
- Follow the Visionary leads to discover ways to eliminate them and perform actions that will change their plans. Your objective is to kill all 8 Visionaries in one loop, that is, in one day in the game world.
- Deal with the Arsenal Leads. These include unlocking new slabs/powers and their improvements (by eliminating Visionaries), as well as obtaining unique equipment (for example, new legendary weapons).
- Continue the free exploration of all districts. Be sure to visit them at different times of the day and discover their unique treasures and areas.
Visionaries Leads and Arsenal Leadswe've described in the following pages of the guide. We recommend completing the Ubiquity mission first, because thanks to it, you will unlock access to the resource Residuum, and you will be able to keep the powers, weapons, trinkets, and upgrades.
