Chapter 5: Lethal Devotion of Dead Space Remake, features a unique indestructible Necromorph Hunter, created by Dr. Mercer. From the walkthrough, you will learn when the Hunter appears, what to do during the first confrontation and how to stop the Hunter from chasing Isaac.
First fight with the Hunter
The Hunter is a monster created by Dr. Mercer. It is an indestructible creature that cannot be defeated in the same way as common Necromorphs. Two encounters with the Hunter take place in chapter 5 - Lethal Devotion.
You will encounter the monster for the first time during the main mission objective of finding the source of the transmission. Isaac will reach the Chemical Lab. After using the terminal, Isaac will be frozen and doctor Mercer will appear. The Hunter will emerge from the nearby tank.
Hunter cannot be killed by dismembering. Cutting off the monster's limbs can slow it down, but they will regenerate after a while.
The only tactic in the first fight is to run away. You have to wait for the message about unlocking the door and run towards the security room. It is worth using stasis to slow down the Hunter, so you won't waste ammo.
Second fight and freezing Mercer's Hunter
The second fight with the Hunter takes place a bit later in chapter 5, during the mission objective of obtaining Liquid Nitrogen. The main character will reach the Cryogenics room.
Doctor Mercer will reappear when you try to take the nitrogen. You have to listen to his monologue - after it ends, the Hunter will appear in the room.
You have to stop the Hunter by being cunning. Stand in the central chamber that had liquid nitrogen in it. Wait for the Hunter to spawn and use stasis on the monster. If you want to increase your chances of success, you can cut off the Hunter's lower limbs first and then use stasis.
Quickly run to the control room where Dr. Mercer was. You'll need to use cryo freeze console to freeze the Hunter - this will only work if the slowed monster hasn't left the central chamber. Doing this will end the confrontation with the Hunter.
