As you go through Dead Island 2 , you may have trouble finding Mutated Hearts. On this page of our guide, we show where to find Mutators (enemies that drop the item), how to increase your chances of getting the hearts, and what are their uses aside from delivering them to Francesca (Body Art: Dread side quest).
Getting a Mutated Heart
Mutated Heart is one of the rarest crafting ingredients in the game. You can find out the current number of them by visting the Parts tab of the inventory.
Hearts may be looted from defeated Mutators. This is the only way to get them, as you can't buy them from traders or find in containers.
Fighting Mutators
Mutators do not appear in the world until you reach a certain point in the game. The first mutator is encountered during the course of The Search for Truth story quest.
From this point on, Mutator Hot Spots may appear on the map, which have the biggest chance of encountering such a monster. An example Hot Spot is in the same area where you fought the boss i.e the laboratory in Ocean Avenue.
Before you set out to a Hot Spot, prepare good melee weapons - ideally, it should be a weapon with Maiming. You can view the damage type of weapons by reading their description in the upper right corner of the screen. It should be noted that Maiming mainly appears with axes and machetes.
Maim increases the chances that the enemy leaves body parts, and the same applies to Mutators. After each defeated Mutator, look around the area - the monster might have left the heart. If you didn't get anything in the current run, return after some time to the same Hot Spot or choose a different one.
Uses for Mutated Hearts
Delivering 3 Mutated Hearts is an objective of Body Art: Dread side quest. This is one of the missions given to you by Francesca, an artist from northern Beverly Hills.
The hearts also have a use in crafting or can be sold to Traders - the latter is the least profitable option, as you won't get much for them considering how rare they are.
