The story begins on the ground floor of a motel where, after talking to Hoag and Lavern, you will gain control over Bernard. Take the help-wanted sign from the window on the left and the flier from the stand. Approach the telephone that says "out of order" and take the dime from the slot. You can also try to pick up the second dime from the floor, but it will turn out that it's stuck in a piece of chewing gum. Head to the office located behind the reception. Open it and go inside.
Take the Swiss bankbook and open the drawer in the desk to take Booboo-B-Gone. Approach the portrait on the wall and open it. There is a safe behind the picture, but for now you don't know the combination. Lastly, leave the office and when in the lobby, head right, towards a grandfather clock. Open in and you will find a passage to Dr Fred's lab. Bernard will go inside and you will watch a cut-scene depicting the heroes' failed trial to time-travel.
