Crusaders Kings 3 is the next installment in the popular series of strategy games developed by Paradox Interactive studio. In this game, the possibilities are almost endless when it comes to your playstyle and creating extraordinary stories set in the Middle Ages. At the same time, this game has a very high entry threshold, as well as many hidden mechanics and features. Thus, we have prepared the following guide to help you get acquainted with this indisputable gem of a game.
The Crusaders Kings is a part of a series of complex strategy games under the Paradox Interactive brand. The developers themselves highlight the fact that their titles stray so much from standard strategy game conventions that they form a completely separate genre - grand strategy games. Other notable games that fall under this category include the Europa Universalis series, Victoria and Heart of Iron as well as standalone titles such as Imperator Rome or Stellaris. Each of these games is set in a specific historical era (except for Stellaris, which has a Sci - Fi setting) and tries to faithfully recreate its realities.
As was previously mentioned, Crusaders Kings 3 is set in the Middle Ages. In this game, we control the fate of the dynasty of our choice over the span of 400 years, through all the stages of development of a given era. Although the gameplay occurs in real time, this game definitely doesn't belong to the RTS genre. On the contrary, the game puts a lot of emphasis on its RPG elements and waging war isn't your sole objective, as you will also need to manage all the important matters of your kingdom, such as religion, culture and the complex relations with vassals.
All of these aspects are described in the following chapters of our game guide. In chapter II, you will learn how to effectively manage your kingdom, while in chapter III, you will learn the secrets of dynastic politics and character development, and finally chapter IV is entirely focused on military matters and the art of warfare. Before diving into the nuances of medieval politics, however, we recommend reading chapter I, as it elaborates on the basic rules that govern the world of noble knights and refined intrigues.

As such, below we have compiled a list of some additional sources of information that may be helpful in the aforementioned circumstances.
- The game's official website - https://www.crusaderkings.com/en - the game's official website mostly consists of various types of promotional materials. Aside from that, in the Introduction tab, you will find several videos containing tutorials on the most important aspects of the game. They're very simple to grasp, which makes them perfect for those who are just beginning their adventure with the game. More experienced players might want to check out the News tab, where regular developer journals and official notes for subsequent patches and DLCs are posted.

You will find detailed descriptions of most of the key aspects of the game. The information contained on this website focuses on the detailed explanation of particular mechanics, which can be especially helpful when developing more advanced strategies. However, the site also provides a solid set of beginner tips. This is the place to look if you want to find out exactly how a specific in-game mechanic works.
- The Paradox Forum - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/crusader-kings-iii.1059/ - Paradox Interactive games have always enjoyed a loyal following of fans who form an active community. This is especially apparent in the discussion boards devoted to the studio's individual productions. As such, you will find a lot of useful information on the CK III forum. It's worth checking out, especially if you're thinking about trying out an unusual strategy. If for some reason you want to create a character who will become pope, then convert to buddhism and set off to conquer Africa, you can find out if someone else has already tried it.
- Online guides - if you haven't found the answers to your questions in our guide, you can always check out other unofficial guides. In most cases, they focus on the basics of the game, but a different perspective can be quite useful, even when faced with a simple problem.
- Playthroughs of other players - often the best way to learn is to observe how another person tackles a given obstacle. Of course, this also applies to Crusader Kings III, so game recordings of other players can be an extremely useful source of knowledge about the game.
