Last update: 21 March 2018

In CrossFire, there are many different game modes, where each one of them will ensure you with hours of fun and will test your cooperative, accuracy and tactical skills. Some of the modes may be treated as a some sort of training before you start going up the ranks, whereas other simply provide fun. The below list mentions some of the most popular game modes in CrossFire, along with hints that may be useful during the game.

5 on 5 ranking match

The most popular variety of ranking matches is Search&Destroy - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

The most popular variety of ranking matches is Search&Destroy. Players are divided into two teams: Black List and Global Risk. The job of the former is to eliminate the opponents or to plant a bomb in one of the two available points, and to protect it until it goes off. The job of the other team is to prevent it from happening. Each round lasts 2:20 min and it ends when:

  1. Black List eliminate all the opponents;
  2. Black List plants the bomb and holds the position until it goes off;
  3. Black List does not attain any of the above and the round ends, Global Risk wins;
  4. Global Risk eliminate all the opponents;
  5. Global Risk disarm the bomb.

Hints that may help attain a higher rank:

  1. If you join a ranking match, try to survive until the end of the match and play as do your best, even if your team is losing. Leaving the match before it ends is punishable by a temporary ban from entering another match and losing ranking points.
  2. Remember that friendly fire is active so, do not fire at your team members, because this weakens your team and you will rile up other players.
  3. Remember that in the game, you cannot go through models of other characters, so try not to get in the way of your teammates.
  4. Before you start the game, check your internet connection delay. You can do that in your operating system, by entering "ping google.pl -t in the "Launch" console.
  5. Before you join a ranking match, access one of the servers with the Deathmatch or Free for All mode and practice for several minutes to warm yourself up.
  6. Before you start the game, always repair your weapon and check your loadouts.
  7. Remember to take the grenades you want.
  8. Before you start a ranking match, try to focus on the game and control your emotions. Getting annoyed with your teammates and your opponents does not help at anything and it will only affect negatively your results and destroy the fun of the game.
  9. If possible, always play with people you know and you realize that you work well as a team. This way, you stand a greater chance of attaining a better rank in the game.
  10. If you have to, use a random browser, try not to tell others how they are supposed to play, because you will only annoy them this way. Focus on your own style and try to have as positive an effect on the game as possible.
  11. While playing with random players, do not expect others to cover you or help you when you are all alone in the planting point. When joining a match with strangers, you usually have to rely on yourself.
  12. Use grenades, but with consideration to prevent working against your team. Smoke and flash grenades allow you to control the map, which is n important issue in CrossFire.
  13. Try to get acquainted with each ranking map before you join a match. Knowledge is a key to success.
  14. Before you plant the bomb, try to check the planting spot. Check all of the corners where the opponent may be hidden.
  15. If all of your teammates have been eliminated and you are the last man standing, remain in the planting spot after you have planted the bomb, for several seconds and then leave. Leaving too soon may result in the bomb being disarmed and you will lose the round.
  16. While planting the bomb, make sure that you will be able to keep a good eye on it, in case someone tries to disarm it.
  17. With the bomb planted, split to protect the spot from every possible side. Moreover, this makes it more difficult for the opponent to eliminate all your teammates at once.
  18. Always try to communicate with your team, even if you are playing with random people. This way, you can save them from dying or let them know where the opponent is lurking, thanks to which it will be easier to eliminate him.
  19. If any of the teammates is getting in your way, let him know over voice chat, but in a calm manner. Do not provoke anyone.
  20. If you are sure that you have hit the opponent and caused severe damage, inform the rest of the team about it to let them know that a single shot will suffice to finish him off.
  21. Remember that everyone makes mistakes. Remain positive and try to uplift the team's morale.

Elimination

Rules of Elimination are similar to those in Team Deatmatch - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

Rules of Elimination are similar to those in Team Deatmatch. One of the differences is that you do not respawn immediately after dying and players respawn as a whole team. What is more, after the round starts, players start with knives only and before elimination starts, you will gave collect one of the firearms from the respawning point. The game is won by the team with the most winning rounds.

  1. Elimination requires players to cooperate to eliminate the other team.
  2. While starting, you have to realize that you will not always use your preferred weapon, so you have to be prepared for anything.
  3. Each round starts with a 3-second pause that you can use to locate your preferred weapon, to go for it as soon as possible.
  4. Remember to collect the secondary weapon and grenades. Secondary weapon is especially helpful if you are using a sniper rifle, for close-range combat.
  5. If you are using a weapon that is not one of your preferred ones, you can always swap it, as soon as you spot your preferred one on the ground.
  6. Try not to walk ahead of the team, because the opponents will be waiting for someone to appear. Let your teammates go first and locate the source of fire.
  7. Maps in Elimination are small, which makes matches very dynamic.

Ghost

Ghost is a variation of Search&Destroy - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

Ghost is a variation of Search&Destroy. There are two teams: Black List and Global Risk. The task of Black List is to plant the bomb and to protect it until it goes off. What is interesting, Black List team members receive a special outfit that makes them invisible while standing still. To eliminate opponents, they can only use bladed weapons. While moving, Black List may be spotted. The task of Global Risk team members is to prevent the bomb from being planted, or to eliminate the other team. Members of this team can use all assortment of gear.

  1. As a Black List, you have to be especially careful, while navigating the map. As soon as you spot an opponent that may see you, stop and wait.
  2. Remember that you can be spotted while moving. When this happens and the opponent opens fire, try to escape into safety.
  3. When you want to eliminate the opponent with your knife, stand still to become invisible and wait for the opponent to come closer.
  4. If you see an opponent turned away from you, you can try to get him from behind and eliminate him with your knife.
  5. As a Black List, you especially have to pay attention to what you see and hear. Remember that a ghost can be spotted while moving. Moreover, you can hear footsteps and opponent's breath, thanks to which you will recognize their position.
  6. Remember that you can see the trail that ghost leaves in water.
  7. Black List team members can be spotted when they cross a smokescreen.

Weapon Master

In Weapon Master, players respawn right after they die - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

In Weapon Master, players respawn right after they die. Each player starts the match with a neutral weapon. To obtain another one, he has to score a specific number of frags (usually 2 or 3) to obtain access to another weapon. After obtaining all 11 weapons, the player can use deadly banana or bare fists. The match ends after a player on the 12 level scores 3 frags.

  1. Weapon Master somewhat requires familiarity with mechanics of individual weapons, which may come in handy later on, in ranking games.
  2. Remember that to be promoted to the next level, you have to score 2 or 3 frags with a given weapon.
  3. Try to follow the course of the match and not to miss information that one of the players has attained level 12.
  4. Remember to use the weapons you obtain in the effective way, e.g. shotguns cannot be used over long distance, so you have to sneak up to the opponent, or wait for the opportune moment to strike from behind the corner.
  5. If you have to score a frag with grenades, it is best to get close to the opponent and start tossing grenades against the ground to make them explode as close to the target as possible.
  6. Remember that you require 2 or 3 accurate hits before the opponent dies from the banana or bare fists.
  7. As soon as you spot an opponent without a weapon, or with the banana, try to eliminate him to prevent him from winning.

Team Deathmatch

Free for All

In Free for All everything is permitted - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

In Free for All everything is permitted. Everyone against everyone. Gamers appear in random points on the map and try to score as many frags as possible. The game ends after a specific aim is achieved, e.g. a specific number of frags, or after time has elapsed. The players with the most points at the end of the match wins the game.

  1. Remember that you start the game with your own loadout, so before you start, make sure that you have selected the appropriate one.
  2. During the game, you have to keep your eyes peeled at all times, because an opponent may appear behind your back at any moment.
  3. Always target the head. A single accurate shot sometimes requires less work than controlling a wide array of bullets fired from a long range.
  4. It is not a good idea to stand still and wait for the opponent to happen by, because he may happen behind your back.

Biohazard Mode

The rules of the Biohazard mode are quite different from the other modes available in CrossFire - Basic game modes in CrossFire | Gameplay - Gameplay - CrossFire Game Guide

The rules of the Biohazard mode are quite different from the other modes available in CrossFire. A maximum of 5 players can join the game, who will have to face the relentless hordes of terrifying creatures and defeat the final Boss. The game in Biohazard mode is based on the good cooperation of all players in order to get the best score, which will have an impact on winning better prizes, after completing the mission.

  1. The missions can be divided into 3 difficulty levels. The more difficult the mission, the more rewarding it is for the players who will be able to accomplish it.
  2. You enter the game either with your own weapons (Assault missions) or only with close combat/melee weapons (Survival missions) and will need to collect additional weapons in order to have any chance of completing the task.
  3. In Biohazard mode, Players have a much larger ammunition stockpile, but even this large supplies of ammunition can be depleted. For this reason, there are ammunition boxes on the maps where the player can replenish the ammunition. Simply go to the boxes, hold down the E button and wait for the ammunition to be refilled.
  4. It is worth remembering that some weapons have a very long time of reloading, such as mini-guns, so sometimes it's better to approach the ammunition boxes and replenish the ammo automatically than to reload the weapons manually.
  5. Every time you defeat a Boss at a higher level of difficulty than a beginner, you will receive a special stamp. Once you have collected 5 such stamps, you will receive a special prize.
  6. Every day you get 8 lives that you can use in the Biohazard mode. This means that if your character dies during the mission, you will be able to resurrect him and continue playing. The number of additional lives is being reset every day.
  7. The damage you deal is converted to points. The more of them you collect, the better the reward you can get. Always try to play as best you can.
  8. You can use grenades in the game, but try to use them at the right moment. For example, it's worth to wait until you see a larger concentration of enemies and then you can throw a grenade causing serious damage to many opponents.
  9. Always try to aim at the head. It's practically impossible to eliminate your opponent with a single shot, but you'll increase your own effectiveness and be able to eliminate targets and score more points faster.
  10. Try to play with as many players as possible because for each of them the team will receive a bonus, which can increase your score up to twenty times.
  11. Always look carefully at the sides and check your position on the radar to ensure you don't get caught up in the hordes of your opponent.
