This page of the Borderlands 3 guide answers the question How to destroy purple eridium crystals which can be found during the game. Destroying the crystals is possible only after you've obtained a certain artifact.

The image above shows an exemplary deposit of eridium. You can destroy these deposits with melee attacks, but initially, this won't cause any damage to the deposit.

To be able to destroy crystals, you need to progress into the main story - defeat The Rampager, who is the boss of the storyline quest called Beneath the Meridian and enter the portal leading to one of the Vaults.

You will find yourself in Vault of the Rampager - search the area for Eridian Resonator, a quest item.

From now on, you can destroy purple crystals - the main hero will automatically use the Resonator when pressing the melee attack button. This will allow you to gather eridium - a premium currency that can be spent at Crazy Earl in the Sanctuary.

Aside from eridium deposits, you can also destroy crystals that encompass chests (screenshot above). You can open the chest after getting rid of all crystals. Eridium chests hold rare loot.
