Why can't I save the Bioshock game on PS4? Bioshock guide, walkthrough

Last update: 04 February 2020

On this page of the guide, we describe a fairly common problem with the PS4 version of BioShock 1 as part of the BioShock: The Collection. You will find out why you can't save the game and how you can solve this key problem. Fortunately, you don't need to be afraid of losing progress, and it's not a very complicated issue.

BioShock for PC has no restrictions on save files, but, unfortunately, this does not apply to the PlayStation 4 version. You can easily reach the save limit, and the game will not allow you to create subsequent entries by displaying the corresponding message (image above). This will happen if your saves exceed the allowed number of megabytes on the console's hard drive. This can happen if you have saved your progress on different slots. Each saving slot can "weigh" tens of MB.

The most obvious solution is to delete some old saves. After selecting an old entry, click the triangle. A message will appear in the game asking if you want to delete an old entry.

A simple way to delete saves, unfortunately, does not always work, since in BioShock: The Collection, the disk space for saving the game state is divided between BioShock 1 and BioShock 2. What does it mean? For example, if a lot of saves are created in BioShock 1 and you start playing BioShock 2, then you can get a message about exceeding the allowed limit very quickly.

If you encounter this problem, you need to disable the game, restart it, and wait for the game selection screen to load (image above). Select a previously running game (BioShock 1 or BioShock 2) and, once in the Main menu, select unnecessary saves to free up space on your hard drive.

fortunately, this restriction does not apply to BioShock Infinite from BioShock: The Collection. It is installed separately and has its own save limit (which, by the way, cannot be exceeded, because Inifnite does not allow you to create manual saves).
