Grenades Battlefield 1 Guide

In Battlefield 1 players have a choice of seven different types of grenades. Some of them have a simple task of killing the enemy, while others have a more tactical use. These devices really prove their worth in modes that are more focus on strategy and tactics, such as: conquest, rush and operations. In this chapter you will find out what makes some grenades differ from others and which grenade to choose in your situation.

Frag Grenade

The most popular type of grenade, which has a time-fuse and deals large amounts of damage to infantry. Damage dealt to buildings is minimal. It is most effective when used to eliminate hostile targets inside buildings.

Upon respawning you will receive one grenade of this type.

Gas Grenade

A gas grenade deals damage to enemies that are standing within the area of its effect. It will force them to use gas masks, which will limit their field of view, and more importantly, prevent them from aiming, which will force them to fire from the hip. It significantly weakens assault and scout classes, as their weapons are usually very inaccurate in such situations. This type of grenade can be used to its full effect, when one team is defending e.g. a Telegraph station, and the attackers throw several gas grenades at their positions and eliminate them from a distance, away from the effective range of the gas.

Impact Grenade

This type of grenade, similarly to the frag grenade, deals huge damage to infantry targets. The impact grenade does not have a time-fuse, and explodes immediately at the point of impact. Therefore, it is more difficult to throw it e.g. inside a building, as it can explode too early to be effective. Its advantage over the frag grenade is that, when thrown well, it will not give the enemy any chance of escaping.

Upon respawning you will receive one grenade of this type.

Incendiary Grenade

The incendiary grenade releases a burning liquid. The fire will only burn for a short time, but the soldiers will continue to burn even after leaving its original area of effect. This grenade is very effective, because players do not know what to do after they are set on fire. They usually keep running, which only makes things worse. You should do the exact opposite - lay down, and then the fire will go out.

The incendiary grenade is perfect for defence of any type of target, from passageways and doorways, to Telegraph stations. It will not always damage enemies, but it will halt their attack for several key seconds.

Mini Grenade

A golf ball sized grenade, which deals less damage to infantry targets, but can be thrown much further.

Smoke Grenade

Another grenade designed to aid you in capturing various strategic points on the map. It disperses a cloud of smoke, which blocks both the ability to see and to mark enemy targets. The smoke grenade is most effective in the rush mode. The attackers can use it in numerous ways. They can create a smoke screen, which will allow them to approach a Telegraph station. Another way of using it would be to place a smoke cloud on the station itself, and then attempting to arm explosives on it without being seen.

Light Anti-Tank Grenade

This grenade deals little damage to infantry, but is much better suited to destroying vehicles. It can be a viable equipment choice for the assault, a class whose primary goal is to eliminate enemy tanks and vehicles.
