World map and navigation in ATLAS Game ATLAS Tips

Last update: 23 February 2019

The aspect that definitely stands out from other elements of the Atlas game is the world map. The map in the game is of enormous size - its surface covers tens of thousands of square kilometers and visiting all of the places in the game will take some time. From this chapter you will learn how the world map is built and how to navigate through it.

At the beginning of the game, you will see only the tiny location you start the game at - the rest of the map must be explored. - World map and navigation in ATLAS Game - Game basics - ATLAS Guide and Tips

World map - characteristic

The world map in the Atlas is divided into 225 segments - it forms a square with the dimensions of 15x15 sectors. Those sectors are included in one of the six climate biomes - Polar, Tundra, Temperate, Tropics, Desert and Equatorial. All of those biomes differ from one another in terms of climate, flora and fauna, as well as available resources. This in turn makes it necessary for each player to visit at least some of them - some areas have raw materials that you will not find in other places and which are required for further character development.

World map - navigation

There are two ways in which the world navigation takes place:

  1. Locally - inside of a specific sector, in which in most cases there is a single, large island, sometimes several smaller ones. In some rare scenarios, the entire sector might be composed of water, without any dry land. You can use compass and the map to navigate through a sector - you can take them out by pressing the "M" key.
  2. Globally - by moving between two sectors to reach new lands.

Due to the fact that most of the world of Atlas is covered by water, travelling between sectors will require a ship (check the "How to leave Freeport" chapter of this guide to learn how to construct your own ship). To swim from one sector to another, you just need to travel towards one of its edges, in the direction you want to travel (west to go to the sector located to the west of your current position, east to move east and so on). Once you reach the edge of the sector, a peculiar light will appear just above the water surface - crossing it will cause you to leave your current sector and enter the neighboring one.

If you look at the world map, all of the sectors will be covered by fog - you need to reach them to uncover them. You can also take a look at the official world map available here: https://map.playatlas.com/
