In short - yes, Atlas Fallen features an open world - Atlas Fallen: Does the game feature open world? - FAQ - Atlas Fallen Guide

In short - yes, Atlas Fallen features an open world. This means once you complete the tutorial and a "Prologue" of sorts present in the game, you'll be able to traverse the map freely and go wherever you want.Access to some regions of the world is locked nevertheless, and to be able to explore them, you're going to need to do the following:

  1. Improve your Air Dash so you can scale larger chasms (this is done by gathering Gauntlet shards);
  2. continue the main storyline.

The world in Atlas Fallen isn't really that vast, which means traveling to different regions does not take much time - especially if you use sand slide. Sometimes, even traveling by sand slide becomes tedious - when that happens, you can use fast travel. To add new destinations to your map, you need to interact with new Anvils.

New regions

In Atlas Fallen, there isn't one large map - Atlas Fallen: Does the game feature open world? - FAQ - Atlas Fallen Guide

In Atlas Fallen, there isn't one large map. Instead, with enough progress in the main story, you unlock access to new regions - there are several of them in the game. Entering a new region means the possibility of finding new collectibles, Anvils, Merchants, or quests.

You can easily return to previous regions, for example by fast travel between unlocked Anvils. However, remember to complete all side quests and bounties that interest you before starting a new region, as those left unfinished will be canceled the moment you transition to a new region. The game will notify you of the possible conflict of interest at the right moment.
