After the initial stages of The Ascent, enemies with shields will start appearing. The fight against them requires more commitment than clashes with standard opponents, because shields absorb bullets from weapons. You need to know how to defeat opponents with shields – this page of the guide will tell you exactly that.

How to defeat shielded opponents?

As mentioned above, shooting at the shield with an ordinary weapon will not yield any interesting results. The basic way to solve this problem, is to encircle the enemy and try to attack them from behind. The easiest way to do that is with dodges. However, if this isn't possible in a given situation, or there are more enemies with shields, you can also use upgrades (augmentation) or tactical grenades.

In this case, you don't need to pierce behind the enemy's back – the explosion of an upgrade or grenade will not be stopped by the shield. In addition, when an enemy with a shield is in the vicinity of an explosive object, you can use that object to kill them. Just make sure your opponent is within the blast radius.
