Lighting a Fire is one of the main story missions forcing players to enter the Freeplay mode in order to locate Ember - one of the crafting materials. Full walkthrough below.

Start by meeting with Prospero in Fort Tarsis. He will tell you that you have to acquire Ember.

Reach the location to start expedition and select the Freeplay mode. You can select any starting position. Freeplay forces you to play in a public session, but you cannot cooperate with players who appear on the map.

You don't find ember at one specified location. Begin by exploring the world map. Look for opportunities to open treasure chests and interact with plants (like the one in the screenshot above). This will sometimes lead you to locate the Uncommon Ember (screenshot 2). You have to achieve three pieces of this crafting material.

You have to return to Fort Tarsis. Open the world map window and hold the finish expedition key. Once more meet with Prospero inside the fort to give him ember. This is how you complete this mission. Henceforth, you can trade with Prospero - he sells different crafting materials.
