Levelling up in Anthem Anthem Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 21 February 2019

In Anthem, there is a fully-fledged character development system. This section informs you how to advance to new experience levels and what rewards are there for ascending to new pilot levels.

How to advance to new experience levels?

Levelling up in Anthem goes on in a classic way - you need to gather a certain amount of experience points (XP) to ascend to a new level - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Levelling up in Anthem goes on in a classic way - you need to gather a certain amount of experience points (XP) to ascend to a new level. Visit How to gain XP faster? section in our guide - the section contains the most important ways of gathering experience points. Here is a short list:

  1. Play with other players rather than alone - this will yield additional xp for each completed expedition.
  2. Complete Strongholds - this is a unique type of mission in which you fight tougher enemies, but the rewards are better and you gain more XP.
  3. Engage in side missions - these can help you get more experience points before you decide to complete another story mission.
  4. Complete as many Feats as you can - Feats are type of challenges that may involve e.g. killing a certain amount of enemies, or completing a given action a few times. Feats reset for every new expedition and you can track them through your journal
  5. Take part in World Events during Freeplay - every completed event yields an XP reward plus a chance of receiving loot.

Experience points are summarized at the expedition summary screen. You cannot advance to a new level during a mission or when visiting Fort Tarsis.

Rewards for new pilot levels

The list below contains rewards which can be unlocked thanks to advancing to new pilot levels.

Level 2

Reward: New javelin - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Reward: New javelin

Notes: The second level is awarded for completing two initial story missions. Even if the introduction was played with a Hunter class, you can now choose a javelin of a different class. The next class is unlocked after advancing to level 8, so choose wisely.

Level 3

Reward: New weapon slot - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Reward: New weapon slot.

Notes: This is a very important upgrade that will allow you to carry two weapons. It is recommended to have e.g. one ranged weapon and one for close combat. The contents of both slots are set in the Forge. You cannot change your weapon during expedition.

Level 4

Reward: New component slot - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Reward: New component slot

Notes: Components are passive abilities that improve certain statistics e.g. increase the durability of javelin's armor or the strength of the given ability. In all, you can unlock six component slots. The second slot is unlocked once you advance to level 6.

Level 5

Reward: New support slot - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Reward: New support slot.

Notes: Support slot is a slot for the third active ability. In opposition to main abilities, it is more of a defensive/supporting character. For example, you can create a barrier blocking enemy bullets or a sphere that reduces the cooldown of your skills.

Level 6

Reward: New component slot

Level 8

Reward: New javelin.

Notes: From now on, you can choose from two javelin classes. Think about which class you want to choose - the third class is unlocked after advancing to level 16.

Level 10

Reward: New consumable slot - Levelling up in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Reward: New consumable slot.

Notes: Consumables are a type of "boosters" that can be set up when preparing for an expedition - to do so, move to the final tab (screenshot above). If you don't have a suitable item (consumables can be found as a loot) you can choose to craft it.

Every consumable guarantees some bonus for the duration of the expedition - for example, you can increase your damage by a few percent or make your javelin more durable. Such boosters should especially be used during tougher missions, e.g. Strongholds. The maximum number of consumables carried by your character at the same time is three. To unlock the other two slots you have to advance to levels 20 and 30.

Level 12

Reward: New component slot.

Level 14

Reward: New component slot.

Level 16

Notes: You can choose the third javelin. The final, fourth javelin will be unlocked once you advance to level 26.

Level 20

Level 23
