ACNH: Easy bells - how to quickly make money? Animal Crossing guide, tips

Last update: 12 November 2021

On this page of our guide to Animal Crossing New Horizons we provide guidelines on how you can quickly make money in the game (bells currency).

The main currency in Animal Crossing is called bells and we never have much of it (we wrote more about in-game currency types here). We need it to expand our infrastructure such as bridges or stairs, to expand our house or buy new furniture and items.

Bells can be obtained and earned in various ways - the most interesting of them have been discussed below. However, remember that there isn't any magical way to earn lots of bells in a short period of time. Animal Crossing is a specific game in which you don't have to rush, and the game is very slow. Of course, you can improve your money making, but there are no ways to instantly become a millionaire (well, maybe apart from time manipulation, but we don't recommend this option).

Insect catching and fishing

Fishing and catching insects are the main sources of income in Animal Crossing. Unfortunately, these are time-consuming activities, and the ultimate gain does not depend entirely on us, but also on our luck. We have no impact on whether we catch a rare specimen or another sea bass. We wrote more about catching insects here. A separate site was also dedicated to fishing.

When it comes to maximizing profits, unfortunately, we don't have any revolutionary advice - try to grab those insects that cost more and leave behind those that cost less than 200 bells. In the case of fishing you have no impact at all - but we recommend selling everything you catch. In theory, you can release the cheapest specimens to free up space for the more expensive ones, but will this speed up the earning of money? We don't think so.

In theory, you'll make the highest amount of bells from catching insects and fish and selling them to C. J. (fish) or Flick (insects). Both gentlemen appear on your island from time to time and both pay 15% more than Nook's Cranny for each fish or insect. Unfortunately, it's hard to predict when they'll arrive on your island. So, in practice you'll sell a huge amount of insects and fish to Nooks anyway.

Stones

Don't forget about the stones on your island. Every once in a while they may drop money instead of raw materials. If you strike the stone with a shovel in the correct way (we explain it here), you'll get 16,000 bells.

Expeditions to other islands

One way to earn money may be to travel to other islands. From time to time, you'll find an island where there are only stones which drop money, or one that is inhabited by many tarantulas (check this page to find out how to catch these terrifying spiders). Unfortunately, you will most often find yourself on ordinary islands, from which you can't get any valuable raw materials or bells.

Fruits

Of course, it's worth to collect fruits that grow on your island and sell them on a regular basis. However, you will make the most money from species that were not originally available on your island. If you started with oranges, for example, you'll get more bells from selling peaches or apples. So if you find new varieties of fruit, like from friends or on another island, don't sell them right away, just plant them. After a few days, fruit trees will grow out of them. These will regularly grow new fruits. In this way, you will become the owner of an orchard from which you will harvest a lot of fruit. As a result you will significantly improve your budget.

Turnips

Speculation with turnips is in theory the best way to make money. We discuss the turnip in more detail on another page of our guide, but it is worth noting the most important aspect - if you want to earn lots of money from turnip, you need to invest a lot in advance. So plan your expenses so that you save as many bells as possible for your Sunday turnip shopping.

Crafting

You can also earn Bells by making and selling items. It may be particularly profitable when such an item is on a promotion at Nook's Cranny store. However, the earned money may be too low in comparison with the work you have to carry out - gather the resources and craft some items.

Other ways

Of course, you can earn bells in some other ways as well. We can, for example, sell duplicated fossils, flowers or gifts from other characters at Nook's Cranny store. However, these are not stable sources of income, so don't expect that you may become rich by using this way.
