As you play Agony, you'll find demons strolling through hell. They will try to kill you each time they detect you. But you can bypass their attack with a few easy moves.
Avoiding demons
Don't be careless. As you move through hell, you have to be attentive to your surroundings. There may be demons lurking everywhere. Before going around a corner, stop, and make sure there are no demons around it.
Drop on the floor and hold your breath if you believe there's a demon around. This will let you avoid being attacked.
Hide in rifts. There are many cracks and rifts in the walls of hell. You can hide in them - demons can't reach you.
Throw torches. You can distract enemies by doing this. It's pretty useful, because demons generally don't want to move a lot.
How to possess Martyrs?
Death is inevitable in Agony. You can be reborn rather soon after death though. You just have to possess any of the martyrs walking around hell. You have about a minute to do it.
When your time starts to run out, different symbols will start to pop up on your screen. The more frequently they appear, the less time you have left.
To be able to possess the Martyrs, you must first acquire a skill called Possessing the Martyrs. When you do this after your death, you will be able to fly to the Martyr and take over his body. This way, you won't lose the tasks you've done and won't have to go back to the last saving point.
