Dvar | Factions in Age of Wonders Planetfall Age of Wonders Planetfall guide, tips

Last update: 26 August 2019

Dvar, one of the factions available in Age of Wonders: Planetfall, can be simply described as "space dwarves". Like dwarves found in fantasy universes, Dvar's units are highly resistant to attacks. They are also unmatched when it comes to production, and their special abilities allow them to terraform lands. In this section, you will learn the features of the Dvar faction, which technologies are worth unlocking as soon as possible and read a few tips related to the gameplay of this faction.

Dvar - features

Dvar faction stands out from the others due to the following features:

  1. Uses of two groups of weapons - Firearms and Explosive weapons. Thanks to them, the units mainly deal Kinetic damage but, thanks to the Explosive damage, they can deal huge area of effect damage.
  2. Powerful area of effect damage and medium-range attacks.
  3. Strong emphasis on production.
  4. Possibility of destroying and creating mountains through terraforming.
  5. Racial abilities: Ignore happiness penalties from Volcanic.

Dvar units use two types of weapons - Firearms and Explosive weapons. Both types of weapons deal high Kinetic damage and have a chance to inflict many negative effects on enemy units. The disadvantage of these weapons is the relatively low accuracy and attack range, but this is offset by the resistance of Dvar units, which are able to easily approach enemy troops and deal damage from medium distances. In addition, most of the attacks of this faction are able to cause serious damage to several units at once - this is excellent when you are facing numerous armies.

Dvar are able to generate the largest amount of Production resource out of all available factions. This means that the player can in a very short time build many new buildings or recruit a large number of new units. Moreover, this faction doesn't receive penalties from settlements in the volcanic territories (usually -50% to Production) - they are able to effectively use these areas. Additionally, thanks to the Operations Tech, Dvar can create and destroy mountains via terraforming.

Technologies worth unlocking as soon as possible

Perimeter Security is a must-have.

While playing as the Dvar, you should get the following technologies:

  1. Perimeter Security from the Faction Tech tree. Unlocks a very useful Fortification Tools improvement that can be installed on units with Trencher skill. Usually, this ability allows a unit to create a cover behind which it can hide. With this modification, the cover becomes impossible to destroy (except special abilities), and each unit hiding behind it restores 15% of maximum health each turn.
  2. Frontier Policies from the Doctrine tree - opens the Colonizer unit, as well as two very useful doctrines that can be activated during the next turns.

The two above technologies are key and should be unlocked as soon as possible.

Tips

Below you can check a few tips on how to play as this faction:

  1. Dvar have some of the best starting units out of all factions. This is mainly due to their defensive capabilities, their starting armor, and high damage.
  2. Units of this faction are characterized by high durability (armor) and the ability to deal huge Kinetic damage, but at the cost of a smaller range and accuracy of their attacks and lower mobility when compared to other factions.
  3. Trencher units equipped with Fortification Tools are very effective in the initial turns. If they use Trencher skill, they will hide behind the cover. This modification also restores their health allowing them to focus on attacking enemies. These units work well as support since their covers can be used by other units.
  4. This fraction receives no penalties from settlements in the volcanic territories. It is worth keeping this in mind and using when, for example, it is necessary to establish colonies in this area. Remember, however, that you shouldn't focus on volcanic territories - Dvar don't receive penalties from these terrains however, these areas also don't give any bonuses that you can get by settling, for example, on the plains.
