The Sacred Sites are special facilities providing many benefits. They allow you to quickly produce more gold and increase the production speed of Villagers. Sometimes controlling all Sacred Sites is necessary to complete the mission.
Once you find a Sacred Site, its icon appears on the mini-map as a small circle.
Sacred Sites can't be taken over until you reach Castle Age and build a religious building.
The Holy Roman Empire can create religious units since the first age, in their Town Center. The Delhi Sultanate unlocks Scholars in the Feudal Age, after building the Dome of The Faith.
Despite this, they still can't take over Sacred Sites before reaching Castle Age.
Once you've met all the conditions, send a religious unit to the Sacred Site along with a few soldiers to defend it from wolves or from enemies. You'll automatically start securing the facility. Your progress is shown in form of a blue bar underneath the facility's name.
Sacred Sites are incredibly valuable. It's a good idea to leave a small squad next to them in case of an enemy attack.
If controlling Sacred Sites is one of the victory requirements, a 10-minute timer will start after taking over all Sites, showing you for how long you must defend them.
