Using knives is an important part of the gameplay in Plague Tale: Requiem. Our guide explains how to solve the problem with the limit of carrying 1 knife in the inventory. You will also learn what are the main uses for knives and when is the best time to use the knives you carry.
Limited number of carried knives
You can find knives in the game world as loot (they can be, e.g. nailed to some surface or lying in plain sight), but by default Amicia can only carry 1 knife in the inventory. This restriction can prove to be very troublesome, as wearing out the knife can prevent you from opening a workbench (more on this in the last subsection). That is why you should try to increase the knives limit.
Increase the number of knives in the inventory
The Belt cases upgrade from the Gear category will enable you to carry more knives. You can purchase it at any workshop.
Unfortunately, this is the last upgrade in this category, requires 3 Tools and a large number of parts. Nevertheless, you should try to unlock it as early as possible. Once you purchase the upgrade, you will be able to carry several knives in your inventory.
Main use of knives
The most important use of knives is to open locked workbenches - an example is shown in the picture.
Not all of the workshops are locked, but the ones that require using up a knife (you lose it after the workshop is open) hide the best loot - these can include tools or rarer ingredients for crafting. If you don't have a knife, you won't be able to open a locked workshop, as there is no other option to do it.
You can also use knives during fights, but we do not recommend doing the following if you have only 1 knife in your equipment. You may have a situation when, after a fight, you will come across a locked chest. A knife can allow you to:
- Kill an enemy with a stealth attack - this is possible after sneaking up from behind, also works on armored enemies.
- Defend against a melee attack - this can be done for selected attacks. You need to quickly press the interaction button (Triangle/Y) - Amicia will be able to avoid death.
