What is worth investing

The basis for fighting at a closer distance is Starting Draw, allowing you to save yourself in case of getting surprised by the enemy. As for shooting speed, Quick Draw and Overdraw - both skills should be developed simultaneously but only later on in the game, at a higher hero level.

Ranger Precision and Steady Hand are useless (note that precision, as a passive skill, affects poison arrow attack, which is launched in sniper mode) because of the time it takes to switch the targeting mode to Sniper and selecting individual enemies.

Multi Arrow is another one of the basic skills that should be developed regardless of choice made on the others. Very useful against even a single target.

Marksman is also worth of interest at the very end, because of the low percentage of chance offered at lower levels.

An important choice is also the type of arrows, which you want to develop: Fire Arrow, Ice Arrow, Distraction Arrow, Poison Arrow. Note that monsters are immune to various elements, which somehow force you to invest in all those skills.
