Step 1: Find Baltimore’s house in Vergen

The mission is connected with a notice on the bulletin board „Baltimore Considered Dead - Baltimores Nightmare - Side missions - The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The mission is connected with a notice on the bulletin board „Baltimore Considered Dead!”. The mission will begin when you see Baltimore’s dream on the projector, during Hunting Magic, in the harpy lair (M13, 6). Leave the cave and head back to Vergen. You need to find Baltimore’s workshop (M15, 15), the next part of the mission will activate once you get near it.

Step 2: Discuss Baltimore with the dwarves working at the anvil

Go up the stairs to the dwarves working at the anvil. Amongst them you will find Thorak (M15, 16), talk with him about the missing runesmith. You will learn how the master has disappeared and get permission to search the workshop.

Step 3: Search Baltimore’s workshop

Go inside the workshop (M15, 15) and start sniffing around - Baltimores Nightmare - Side missions - The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Go inside the workshop (M15, 15) and start sniffing around. You don’t need to drink Cat, even without it you should be able to see the wall which can be destroyed with Aard. Inside you will find a box with Baltimore’s key and Baltimore’s directions inside. You have to follow the directions to reach a place where you can use the key. Before you do that however, you will be stopped by Thorak beside the entrance. He will ask you if you found anything interesting, you have two options:

  • Tell him you didn’t find anything. Consequence in Step 7, Option A.
  • Tell him you found the notes. Consequence in Step 7, Option B.

Step 4: Follow the clues from Baltimore’s notes

Start looking at the well, where loud echoes dwell.” – head to the burned village, where you will find an old well (M13, 2).

Take ten paces towards the river, walk left and do not shiver. Meager two tens of paces, pass the gate in my good graces.” – head north, and turn left at the crossroads. Go past the Scoia’tael squad and you will reach a huge gate (M13, 7).

The one that out safety keeps. Go where the crossroads’ patron sleeps. Every road you need to take, yet the middle one is safe.” – you will reach a wooden statuette (M13, 8), where you will have three paths to choose from. Start off by going towards the quarry (M13, 3).

Step 5: Follow Ingrand’s signs

Heed and look for Ingrand’s signs, and you’ll follow my designs.” – Go down the quarry. On your way you will come across a few rocks with the sign carved into them. You will eventually reach a small hill, with a chest (M13, 9) and the Runic key inside.

Step 6: Go to the right, according to Baltimore’s notes

Notice! You will come across the troll (M13, 10), connected with Where is Triss Merigold?.

Should you choose to go right, you’ll soon see someone in plight. At noon this drowned soul, points its shadow at your goal.” – return up to the statuette (M13, 8) and this time go right. You will find the drowned soul, which is in fact a ship wreck (M). Go into meditation and wait till noon. The wreck’s shadow will point you the way – bushes, which you can get rid of with Igni. Inside you will find a chest with Baltimore’s notes and a couple runes – be sure to take them. Once you pick up the notes, Thorak will show up. Depending on whether you told him about what you found in the workshop or not, there are two possible paths:

  • You told him that you didn’t find anything. Description in Step 7, Option A.
  • You told him that you found the notes. Description in Step 7, Option B.

Step 7, Option A: Inform Cecil of Thorak’s crime.

If you didn’t tell about your finding, you will be immediately attacked by Thorak and his two sidekicks - Baltimores Nightmare - Side missions - The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Game Guide and Walkthrough

If you didn’t tell about your finding, you will be immediately attacked by Thorak and his two sidekicks. The dwarves are no joke, especially Thorak. You can try to take control over one of them with Axii, leaving only one to take care of. First take care of the sidekicks and leave Thorak for the end. Remember about using Yrden – you should be able to deal with him rather quickly.

Notice! Search Thorak – you will find a key useful in Suspect: Thorak and many equally handy materials.

Notice! Don’t forget to take the Beaver Cap from the chest – it will come in handy in the future, during Death Symbolized.

Afterwards return to Vergen and inform Cecil Burdon (M15, 12) that Thorak killed Baltimore. You will receive Gwyhyr.

Prize: 300 XP

Step 7, Option B: Give Thorak the notes

If you did tell him what you found, Thorak will come right before you look inside the chest and tell you to give him the notes, in return for some orens and a discount. If you don’t agree, you will automatically skip to Step 7, Option A.
