WARRIORS

Warriors should be used in the early missions of each campaign, mostly because you won’t have to pay too much attention to their state of health. I would recommend choosing them each time you plan on fighting your enemies in close quarters, because their special attacks are very effective (especially the middle one).

Warriors are great when fighting at close range, but they become less useful in the final missions of each campaign.

ARCHERS

Archers are very similiar to mages, mostly because their biggest asset is the possibility of attacking enemy units from a large distance. You should focus mostly on their fire attacks, activated by the right mouse button. Fire arrows can stop most of your opponents and in addition to that they’ll knock them down. The biggest disadvantage of controlling an archer is that they can’t heal themselves. As a result you can’t make any major mistakes and you must prevent enemy warriors and scouts from getting too close.

SCOUTS

I have to be honest that I wasn’t using scouts too often throughout the course of both campaigns. They’re useful only in two types of situations – when you plan on taking enemy units by surprises (especially trolls and ents) and when you want to get to an isolated area of the map without having to fight too many enemies. Otherwise you may ignore them and choose a more useful class.

The only true advantage of using a scout is to being able to surprise enemy units.

MAGES

Mages may seem like a mediocre class at first, but their abilities become priceless when you advance to more challenging levels of the game. The biggest advantage of controlling a mage is that you can heal and not only yourself but your allies as well. You won’t have to worry about dying prematurely, however mages have a small health bar, so you can’t feel too confident.
